After having some serious GAS and doing a great job on putting some extra money away im about to reward myself with a warmoth lespaul :]. the body will most likely be black korina with a flame maple top, and a birdseye maple neck with ebony fingerboard.

whenever i need pickups for a new guitar im ususaly checking out the SD forums to see what people think, and while doing so this time i was browsing youtube for some les paul bluesy type stuff and came across this:

id like a pickup that can get pretty close to that tone, as well as handle some of the more modern "hardcore" type stuff. im not too partial as to which pickup company to get them from (SD, DMZ, BKP, etc ) so what do you guys think?

I don't know if that combination of woods will produce a well balanced guitar. The woods you picked tend to accentuate the upper range of tones -- Korina is known to be "middy", and Maple and Ebony are "trebley". Unfortunately no one can know how it will actually sound until you build it.

That said, an LP style guitar and a P90 or a PAF style pickup should get the rocking, blues tone in the video. Of course, much of it depends on your amp (and pedals, if any).

Thats a good wood combo. "Limba" body, maple neck, Ebony fretboard.

Are you going to finish it in Korina?

As far as that sound, it will depend on your amp more than anything. I would seriously go for a Custom in the bridge and a PG in neck. The Custom will handle more modern stuff but, roll the volume just a hair and you can do bluesy PAF stuff all day long. BTW, those 2 pickup match each other better than any 2 pickups I have ever paired.

If you're going with a short scale neck, go with Theodie's suggestion. For a Fender scale neck, I'd substitute the Custom with a PATB-3.

Actually, I would do the exact same with a longer scale! Shorter scale, Custom/PG all teh way!

A C5 will give you the color & character of an alnico magnet, which you won't get with a ceramic (Custom, etc). With a '59N or JazzN on the neck, you'd have a great Chicago blues/rock combination.
