Pickup suggestions?

Ibanez RG370, thick slab of ash body, maple neck and fretboard, Floyd Rose.

Stock Quantum pickups aren't all that, need something better. Bridge needs to be high gain, something that sounds well with the fairly bright (but not thin) sounding axe.

JB perhaps?

Try the SH-11. Custom Custom with a softer top-end would be a good fit with a bright axe.

The JB is a hotter pickup, but not by too much. Brighter top-end.

depending on your budget, the Duncan custom shop has a few more options also.

What's "better" to you? More output? Brighter? Warmer?

Need a little more to go on here...

Essentially, the Ibanez has the same wood as a superstrat would, ash, maple, floyd rose. The JB tends to sound good in such a guitar (read that here), despite its upper mid spike.

I want the guitar to be able to do the Vai/Satch fat lead tones, not really looking for the modern metal (very midrange focused) sound.

If you want Satriani/ Vai tones, have you considered their signature pickups? Or pickups they used earlier in their careers?
if you can pin down a few specific examples of their sound that you like, that might help? Especially on decent live recordings, then it might be easier to pinpoint which guitar/ pickups they’re using (rather than a potential army of guitars used in the studio).

Just get their signature pickups and consider it d-o-n-e.

One thing about the Custom Custom that's special is it's a magnet swap away from being two more duncan models (SH-5 with a ceramic magnet and SH-14 with an Alnico 5 magnet). Good pickup for a lot of players to have at their disposal

Thanks i have a spare custom custom. great pup, I have it in a few mahogany axes, not sure I'd want the same again, though I absolutely dig the custom A5 and A2's.
I'll probably go for a signature model.
