Pickup swap : A8 in CC vs. A8 in JB, your thoughts & experiences

JB is ~'86 and CC is '07, DC as expected. Anyone who did put (the same?) A8 in both of these (hopefully in the same guitar, but not that it's crucial) , can you describe how final result differ?

Thanks for your time & effort.

Yep I have had both in the same guitar. The Custom 8 is clearer more percussive and more articulate the JB is smoother, hotter and more compressed.
Both are killers and which one I prefer is based on the woods and unplugged tone of the actual guitar.
I currently have a JB 8 in my Purple Swamp ash MG 100 Pro and a Custom 8 in my Quilt maple over honduras Mahogany MG 120 Artist. Both guitars are 1995's and identical except for body wood. I have had both pickups in my 95 MG 122 Artist back to back.

I've had both in the same guitar.

The A8 JB seems to be clear and even. I would compare it to a very hot and balanced Jazz bridge. It doesn't have a lot in common with the standard JB tone. For people who have a JB but don't particularly like the tone but still want high output, I'd recommend swapping in an A8 magnet instead of a ceramic. It's a pickup that (like the Custom 8) has tons of output, but it has the balanced EQ of a lower output pickup.

The Custom 8 is, strangely enough, like a JB on steroids. It's very full and warm, but with a slightly bright top end. It's aggressive and chunky, but still very clear. It does the JB singing lead tone pretty well, but manages to be meatier at the same time. Power chords sound massive, and leads cut right through. I'd highly recommend it for metal and hard rock.

I agree with your assesment. In particular the Custom 8 being like a JB on steriods. I find the custom 8 to be tighter in the bottom and more articulate by far though.
To me the Custom 8 is the ultimate Hair Band Shreadder tone pickup.

It is my opinion that A8 is only a tasteful choice in the heaviest coils, in this case the JB.
