pickups for a Carvin

Hello,

I just bought a used 2007 Carvin DC127 with no pickups and H-H pickup layout. it's neck-thru, 25" scale length, with Mahogany neck and body wings, Ebony fingerboard, and OFR. it has passive electronics (Vol, Tone, pup selector, 2 coil taps, and 1 phase switch)

I want to put a pair of passive Seymour Duncan humbuckers in this guitar. I'd like the full gamut, from jazz clean to thrash crunch to shredder soloing :scratchch

I have a DC127-T with all maple construction (save for the ebony fretboard) and a floating Wilkinson. I really like the PATB-1n/PATB-3 pairing I have in there now, but obviously, your guitar (and probably amp) are much different than mine.

First off, how does the guitar sound unplugged?

Secondly, what kind of amp are you playing through?

Lastly, what sonic attributes are you trying to enhance/downplay from the acoustic tone of the guitar?

well, the guitar currently has no pickups. it's all mahogany and when I strum the whole guitar just resonates. I read in some reviews that neck-thru Carvins are on the bright side, so I dunno :?:

I'm mainly an 80's metalhead...hair, thrash, and shred. I play through a couple of different amps: Roland JC-120 with Boss GT-10 modeller, Peavey 5150 combo, and a Marshall 6100LM combo.

The older neck thru Carvins aren't exactly bright, but they do have a very articulate, almost clinical high and midrange response. I've owned two, my current all maple trem DC127, and a maple/alder hardtail DC127. Both had a hi-fi response with a quick attack and very even sustain with almost no bloom. I attribute it more to the twin graphite rods in the neck on the older models. These characteristics are very good for maintaining detail under heavy gain.
For your guitar and applications, I'd be very inclined to try a Screamin' Demon in the neck and a Duncan Distortion Trembucker in the bridge.

I have owned many many many Carvins. I built 2 mahogany neck and bodied DC's one in 96 and one in 97 both with quilt tops.
The distortion is not a bad choice as would be a JB in the bridge. This in particular would really be a set up that a Custom 8 in the bridge and a Jazz bridge in the neck would ROCK in!!!
