Pickups for a Charvel Model 4

As the title states, I've got an old Charvel Model 4 my uncle has given to me. He stripped out the electronics and put in a passive Duncan humbucker in the bridge, and a single-coil sized Duncan humbucker in the neck--nothing in the middle. Now, the neck pickup doesn't line up correctly so I'm assuming it's meant for the bridge. On to what I'm looking for...

This guitar sounds really nice for lead work, even unplugged. But it gets rather chunky and metal sounding when you turn the gain on. I really have no problem with this, my problem is that I want better clean tones. Also, I'd love to be able to get some blues and funk sounds, similar to a Strat, from this axe as well. So I've got two questions here. One, am I right in assuming that I can get these sounds out of this guitar with some single coils in the middle and neck position? Two, what pickups do you guys suggest?
