Pickups for a corsair

Hello,
I have a schecter corsair 335 style semi-hollow that comes with the duncan designed pickups. I want them gone. I have been considering several options, but I'm not sure which way to go.

I play mostly modern worship- shimmering cleans to heavy crunch, classic rock, and alternative through an egnater rebel 30.

The pickups I've been considering are
P-rails x2 (would only use the p90s/hb in series)
Jazz/pearly gates
Jazz/custom-59 hybrid
Phatcats x2
Phatcat/59

Which of these would best fit my needs? Or... Are there any other combinations I should consider?
Thanks for your assistance.

No one has any input or thoughts on the pickup combos listed above? Or different pickup combos that I haven't thought of yet for a 335 style guitar?

Re: Pickups for a corsair

Corsair is a 335 style semi hollowbody.

I wouldn't go with a 59 if you don't like the pickups that are in there now, they are essentially just an import version of the 59. What is it that you don't like about the pickups that are in there? Knowing that will help people suggest pickups that will fit your preferences a little better.

I like them ok, but I'm constantly thinking it could be better. It's hard to put a finger on. It could even just be the stigma around the "duncan designed" pickups.

Re: Pickups for a corsair

Maybe a slash set or regular A2P? I would say Seths for the clean, classic and alternative tones, not sure how well they do heavy crunch. I picked up a tele body that had a "designed" bridge and jazz set that really surprised me. The pickups were a lot better than I expected.

I've been checking out the sh-16 59/custom hybrid.

The more I try to figure out what I don't like about my pickups, I find that I'm looking for a little more clarity/transparency at lower gain with the middle position while still retaining a lot of bass/warmth, and a little more grit/tightness with gain.

I don't know much about the custom, but the couple of videos I've seen of the sh-16, it seems to add what I feel my "import 59s" are lacking. Also, I love the jazz for a neck pickup, the awesome full warm clean tone is one of my favorites.

Would those 2 pair well together in a 335 type?

Re: Pickups for a Corsair

Much depends on what "flavour" of Thinline you desire? The classic blues/jazz/jangle machine or something hotter for hard rock?

First, I would attempt to define what exactly is unsatisfactory about the DuncDes HB-101 B & N humbuckers? In my opinion, their sounds can be improved by simple bar magnet swaps. Alnico 4 in the 101N and Alnico 8 in the 101B. Cost under twenty Dollars inc. shipping.

EDIT - If you attach stigma to the Duncan Designed pickups for being "import/budget" then the same supposed stigma could equally be applied to the remainder of the guitar.

In my opinion, the single most effective upgrade that could be made to the Schecter is to upgrade the pots.

I have a Corsair. I was happy with the Duncan Designed pickups that came with the guitar. For me, they don't have a negative stigma. But because of my position, I'm constantly trying out different pickups and I've gone through several sets in that guitar. What's in there currently are a Brobucker in the bridge and a '59 in the neck--both with chrome plated covers. Compared to the HB-101 Duncan Designed pickups that came stock, the Brobucker gives the bridge pickup a bit more growl, and the '59 gives the neck pickup a bit more clarity.

I think you would like the C/59 hybrid and Jazz set.

Also I would recommend either a Pearly Gates set or the WLH set.

Looking for transparent full spectrum cleans with dynamic dirt. I'm running through and egnater rebel 30 with a soldano 4x12.
Signal path is: guitar-vpjr-ts9-klon clone-ep booster-amp-m13 in fx loop-cab.

I like the woody/semi-acoustic vibe of the semi-hollow for cleans and light dirt, but play heavier stuff from time to time. No doomy brootals. This is currently my only hb equipped guitar and I want to get as much out of it as possible.

The hb101s for me don't have quite as much clarity and bite as I would like them to. Since I actually took the time to look into them past the stigma and trash talk on forums, I found that I don't dislike them as much as I thought, but they still aren't exactly what I'd prefer out of the guitar. I dig everything else, except the bigsby.

I might look into a magnet swap and changing the pots.
The magnets never occured to me, and I've always seen pots as pots.

Should I do 1megs? Little more high end for that bite and clarity?

Re: Pickups for a corsair

The stock Schecter pots are unlikely to be of the highest quality. Audio taper 500k would be my choice.

Re: Pickups for a corsair

Would it be overkill to relaxe the whole wiring harness with one of the mojotone sets? And would a 335 harness work? The cable jack is in a different spot I think...
