so my nitefly m has been through a bunch of pickup changes. I love the playability and feature set on the guitar, but it's a real pain in the @$$ when it comes to tones. it's a dark guitar, but has a very "plinky" quality to the high end, which I think is largely due to the neck and frets.
anyway, the stock dimarzio pickups were terribly bland with no real character.
mostly for ease of replacement, but also because I wasn't real familiar with SD, I went through several sets of dimarzios, and i'm thinking about switching them over to SDs.
1st change was an Air Norton in the bridge and a 36th Anniversary in the neck. nice tones, but no oomph and too round in the bridge especially.
2nd change was to a Crunch Lab / Liquifire combo. too dark. great pickups, wrong guitar.
3rd change was a D Activator set. I like these, but I would like to be able to adjust them, but since they're direct mounted this isn't easy at all. killer with gain, pretty sterile bridge clean tones and maybe too high output or modern overall?
TL;DR - i'm thinking about one more swap and hope to be able to call it a day after that.
