Pickups for an HSS strat?

Looking to buy one of these, strictly because it has my name on the headstock. It's a cheapie from the UK, but it's in my favorite color and it has my friggin name on it, so I figure why not have it for novelty purposes? Then i figure, a set of good Duncans would make it playable! I used to have an SSS strat with hot rails in it that I really liked, had a great Iron Maiden type vibe to it, so I figure that's what I could do to this one, but I've never dealt with an HSS. I don't know what Humbucker I'd put in it, nor what singles would go with it.

It has a maple neck, rosewood fb, doesn't say what the body is. Here's a picture though, for those that care;

Any suggestions? Also while we're on the subject, they make a clear acrylic version that I'm thinking about picking up, unless the sound would be complete ass no matter what. I've never heard of an acrylic guitar, though I've seen good results from acrylic drums/piano (X Japan!).

Never listened to Fu Manchu, then.

Acrylic Dan Armstrongs, Duncan Hot Rails, Marshalls.

Acrylic guitars are heavy as ****.

By the way, you haven't mentioned what style of music you want pickup suggestions, for.

I've played one of those Wesley guitars, too (not that specific model, though). They're not bad. I'd still rather have a decal made of my name and put it on a better guitar, though.

Well now that you mention it, I also realize I've seen some of those clear neon acrylic BC Richs too, but those are so fugly...

More of a novelty than anything really lol, and I've never actually operated on a guitar, so I figure this would be an inexpensive way to, while having something cool (to myself). I'd be going for something similar to Iron Maiden/80s metal I guess. I mentioned my old SSS strat with Hot Rails in 'em 'cause that's what I think of when I think strats. Normally I play progressive/power metal through a POD X3 Live.

Re: Pickups for an HSS strat?

I think my mandolin is a Wesley. It's not great quality but was cheap and sounds pretty good.

I would put a JB in the bridge with the Hot Rails neck. The middle might be alright as is, if you use the bridge and neck more often (as most people do).

Re: Pickups for an HSS strat?

Well the stock middle pickup will probably be okay, esp. if you are using it in combination with the neck HotRails.
