Pickups for Fender Standard Strat

Hi, I'm thinking of buying a Fender Standard Strat, The Mexican one. To be able to play music similar to the scorpions (Uli Roth Era), Deep Purple, Rainbow, Jeff Beck, MSG, UFO, Sabbath etc, what kind of pickups should I go for? Also, will this guitar be a good choice for me? My budget for pickups is around $250. Thank you.

Re: Pickups for Fender Standard Strat

I'd personally go with a Hot Rails bridge and Neck with a Cool Rails middle. Great combo!

Either that or the JB jr. with a lil 59 in the neck. You can even keep your stock single coil in the middle for an HSH setup which is really popular and more affordable too. But if you wanted to go a little futher, you can get Duncan's Duckbucker pickup in the middle for a fully noiseless set up like rails Scott recommended, and it makes up the Duncan Everything Axe set, which covers an amazing amount of tones, including the ones you listed. They also come in prewired pickguards so installation becomes much easier, and that prewired pickguard is right at your price limit in the color of your choice. Though ones like pearl are more expensive.

That and they come with Duncan's Liberator system, which makes swapping pickups easier if you ever want to in the future. By the way, you have awesome taste.

Thanks a lot man.

Re: Pickups for Fender Standard Strat

All of the bands you've listed use bridge pickups pretty extensively.

I would just replace the middle tone knob with a 500k pot, and swap a Hot Rails.

Leave everything else as-is.

If you really, want some of Ritchie and Uli's "neck" pickup (since the Sky guitar doesn't technically have one), I would do a Malmsteen Fury.

No real need for the middle pickup in your setup. Screw it all the way down and disconnect it. Get a 3-way blade switch.
