Pickups for H150

Greetings all, my Heritage H150 came with a set of Pearly Gates and I just can’t seem to bond with them. I’m thinking of replacing them with either a set of WLH’s or a set of Sheptone Tributes. Both sets are about the same price and both have rough finished Alnico V’s. Has anybody any experience with both sets? Spec wise they appear to be very similar.

Re: Pickups for H150

They seem a little harsh and even though I adjusted the heights I just can’t seem to shake it. I usually like alnico 2 pickups in the neck but with these I just can’t put my finger on it. I love the Seth Lovers in my Les Paul and those are alnico 2’s if I remember correctly.

The H150 itself seems a bit dark, but i always thought the pearly gates tended to be bright and would balance out a dark sounding guitar. Like I said, for whatever reason I just can’t get along with em.

Re: Pickups for H150

I was going to suggest some Seths, or an Alnico II Pro set.

Re: Pickups for H150

In general, similar specs do not make similar sounding pickups.

WLH, A2Ps or Seth’s are all good suggestions.

Note Pearly Gates, Seths and A2Ps are all similar specs, but very different sounding pickups.

I do not have experience with Sheptones.

Yeah, I’m leaning towards the WLH set. Was just hoping some had real world experience with the Sheptones as clips are kinda... Anywho, I know that they would have different sound characteristics even though the specs are the same I’m just curious as to what they are. Either way it will probably be a win/win. Hopefully. Re: Pickups for H150

the pg are aggressive for an a2 pup but they arent overly bright. the wlh are a little more open on top but still not overly bright

Re: Pickups for H150

To me, PG's have a warm, rounded neck (too much so for my tastes), and a bright bridge (which other members have commented on too). I prefer my PU's to be closer to each other in EQ, so I couldn't bond with PG's.

From a blues/classic rock perspective, my favorite Duncans are Seth, WLH, & A2P with the stock magnets, and with mag swaps: '59B (UOA5) and for a hotter bridge a Custom 5 (UOA5).

Cool, I forgot to mention the type of music I’ll be playing with this guitar. Blues/classic is exactly what I plan on using this guitar for. Thanks to everybody for chiming in. I’ll let everyone know which set I decide on.
