Pickups for Ibanez RG 370DX

Hi everyone.I got an Ibanez rg 370 dx which has a basswood body and a floyd trem. I wanna change its pickups.

I have experiences with dimarzios but I have never had experience with a seymour duncan before.So please help me to give my decision :)

I want tone like Satch's or Paul Gilbert's.And I should be able to shred like Yngwie if I want.But sometimes I might play bluesy tones like Eric Johnson.

The guitar has a H-S-H config, but I won't change the single for now.What is the best config of H-H on a basswood body? Cause I don't wanna get a muddy sound.DM tone zone sounded crap on basswood.Thanks for your help.

A Duncan '59 at the neck and a Duncan JB or Custom at the bridge would be a nice and versatile combo.

Interestingly every artist mentioned is a DiMarzio user... Satch the Fred... Gilbert the Tone Zone... Yngwie the YJM... Eric Johnson the HS-2...

But I agree with JGhost the JB/59 pair would rock for what you want... Though maybe also look at the Custom and the Jazz for the neck...

Yeah I know they use dimarzios but I would use them if I was paid million dollars, wouldn't
I? I know I mentioned dimarzio users but I don't wanna get the same tone , I just wanted to explain my style of playing.And I think I can get a better sound with duncans.

dr.Barlo from here told me in a Turkish forum that Satch was using pearly gates and alnico II while recording.I don't know if it's true but it could be, because Satch sounds more treble in live playing, i think it could be because of dimarzios.You never know what they use for recording :)

What about JB vs. Custom Custom?

Hey Tommasi. I have a 350dx which I hope to upgrade with a custom trembucker and probably a fullshred in the neck. Have you thought about your single middle position? I'm thinking JB jr. or a hot rails. See ya

Yeah I agree with you on the artist endorsements. I was just pointing out they all happened to be Dimarzio users... To me neither Satch or Eric Johnson have that "dimarzio" sound to me, Paul Gilbert does though... But I agree I like Duncans in general better than dimarzios... The Custom Custom has never been my fave not alot of output (which can be good and bad depending on your point of view) Tons of mids to me the JB sounds much more open and dynamic.

edgecrusher, thank you for your answers.One last question, how is custom5 in the bridge? is jb better or custom5? I'm looking for a high output pickup that can do most styles, in the bridge.I know JB is great for that, but I wanna know about other pickups too.As my guitar has a basswood body, would JB sound too much treble on it?

Tough choice! Both pickups are awesome in their own right and should be able to get you some great tones. Here's a brief description of how I percieve them:

The JB has a ton of mids and the C5 has more 'neutral' mids.

I think the JB is more versatile, it does everything from clean to distortion very well. Incredible lead tone, smooth and singing. Sparkly cleans that can imitate stratty tones pretty good when split. It is pretty bright in my RG but 250K pots will solve that.

The C5 is the perfect cross breed between modern and vintage. It has a very fat bassy sound and smooth highs. Awesome crunch, good cleans. (not as good as the JB cleans though) Great for bluesy stuff.
