hello everybody

i need some new pickups for my ibanez sz320 (the one with the maple top)
i want a clear warm sweet tone with some bite
styles are blues and classic rock (led zeppelin, cream, GNR)
i was thinking of a pg or aph set
i like the pg in the neck but i'm affraid it might get too bright in the bridge
any other sugestions ?

bump

i'm now thinking of putting a c5 in the bridge and the pg in the neck
would this work out for this guitar ?

Re: pickups for my sz320

A good friend of mine uses a SZ520QMBBL as his main axe (awesome guitar, and is in see thru blue :D) and he put a DD in the bridge that that thing is awesome! But since you are going to the classic rock tone I think a custom is worth a try a JB might be a little over the top on output.

Sly_D used to have one of those, I think... Maybe it was a higher model I forgot.

I remember he tried quite a few different pups in there, a c-5/PG neck set was one of them...

I'll PM him for you :)

I don't know I think the Custom and JB are fairly modern. I'd go with a Custom Custom/Alnico II Pro set. I love the Custom Custom in mahogany bodies, it almost seems to be made for that sweet vintage classic rock sound with a bit of bite

Hey waix!

I had a SZ720 and tried many pups in there. Of course, it's a matter of taste, but here's what I tried with comments:

1) Custom / PG: My favorite. People bitch about ceramic, yet your ears will like it.

2) CC / PG: Creamier, but I hate the spongy base of the CC. Can be your deal if you really look for a creamy yet biting set.

3) C5 / PG: Forget it, the C5 is OK for rhythm but sterile for lead. This is personal of course.

4) 59 set: Great bridge, hate the 59 neck... too bassy.

I also tried a DMZ Super Distortion (great but a little too much) and Fred (great in both B and N - one of my fave DMZ).

There, if I still had the guitar, I'd probably go for a Custom/PG or, for a little more vintage sound, a 59b/PGn.

Hope this was more helpful than confusing :)
