I just purchased a PRS SCT and the guitar is a little to trebbly and bright to my taste, i think the current pickups are th PRS #7s. The guitar plays superb though. So any choices for a good pickup combo for this guitar? Do any humbuckers fit in this guitar? Thanks guys Current choices

-seymour duncan pearly gates neck and custom bridge
-seymour duncan jazz neck and JB bridge
-seymour duncan 59s?

Does all these humbuckers actually fit in a singlecut tremolo? because i heard this quote from a forum
"Very true when you have a pup with the long "vintage" dog ears like a Duncan 59 or Seth Lover. The more modern pups have short ears like the JB and Jazz. I bet many maufacturers can hook you up with a short ear version if you need it."

Thanks for all the help guys

Re: Pickups for PRS singlecut tremolo

I think they're #6s, not #7s. The #6s were the standard pickups. If they're uncovered, zebra, or splittable, they're likely not #7s.

The checklist states its a 7s :) However mine is splitable and zebra and uncovered hehe, any recomendation for new pickup guys?

I go for a set of '59's myself for a vintage sound, or a C5/'59N for more horsepower on the bridge. The JB is a controversial PU, with many admirers & detractors due to it's finickiness about how it reacts to individual woods(when it's good, it's great; when it's bad, it's awful), and the JazzN is kind of bland & timid. I have a JB/Jazz set in an LP Studio, which works only because I put an A2 in the JB. These PU's should fit, they're standard size, and I don't recall seeing complaints about that.

With my C5's and '59B's, I use 250K/300K pots for more warmth, and both are good with A8 replacement magnets (which increase output & mids).

I read that a few times before I understood what they were saying. Dogears are traditionally P90s, the quoted is talking about long and short legged pups. Long legged pups WILL fit. I have one in the neck slot of my CU24 actually.

The first thing I'd recommend you do is open up the back of the guitar and see if you have a small capacitor going from outside to the inside legs of your volume pot. If so remove it and play the guitar and see if you like the sound better. That is the treble bleed cap and it makes them sound VERRRY thin IMO.

Re: Pickups for PRS singlecut tremolo

Just wondering exactly how you are expecting your PRS to sound? Some of your "problems" may be down to instrument materials, construction and misplaced expectations.

IMHO, the PRS Singlecut combines #7 humbuckers with a massive slab of mahogany to produce a much-loved classic rock guitar sound.

By comparison, the PRS Singlecut Trem has a shallower body and a spring cavity routed out of it right where the bridge studs ought to be for that classic tone and sustain.

The SC and SCT designs are bound to sound different.

PICKUP SUGGESTION
I recently purchased an ESP/LTD EC-401. This is an Indonesian-made, twenty four fret LP derivative, all-mahogany construction but skinner than than The Real Thing.

As soon as I got the guitar home, the stock EMG-81/60s came out and a pair of SD Live Wire Classic IIs went in. Result - classic G brand tones. My "cheap" import guitar sounds totally professional.
