Pickups for soloing in alder

Hi,

I have purchased a duncan Full Shred in the bridge position last 2 weeks. I like it. Very "djenty", the chords played in distortion sounds very clear and tight. The clean is a bit too bright tough. However, when playing solo, there is this thing that I do not like. There is this characteristic fat sound in it and there is no sort of harmonic/high end when playing above 12 fret on the high E string. I will be placing this pickup to the neck and am thinking of purchasing a new pickup for the bridge. What type of pickups would you recommend? For soloing, with great harmonics, in an alder body superstrat.

Thanks,
Kei

You might also check the Alt 8. It's darker and fuller sounding than the Full Shred which might be what you want in a bright guitar. The cleans are much better than with most high output pickups out there and the leads are just amazing! Very good and expressive vocal quality, lots of harmonics. I think you'll love it ;)

For leads, it beats the DD, the FS and many others!

Hi,

Erm thanks guys for the "quick" replies! Seems like JB would be best for soloing. I mainly play progressive metal but I'm more to soloing, what I know is, I definitely do not want an Invader. :) One question, would the JB's sound in the bridge fit the FS in the neck? If it doesn't I'm thinking of purchasing the Jb/59 or JB/Jazz combo.

Thanks again guys,
Keitake

I would not give up on the FS at this point. If you have a source for magnet i would get a A8 for the FS. Nearly all my bridge pickups have A8 magnets (i did not like the Alt8 - to dark for my taste). There is a Custom 8 in a Les Paul and a Screaming Demon A8 in a Alter Strat. The A8 magnet give you more mids 'n' meat and enhances the harmonics greatly.

I have a few alder guitars with the JB bridge and FS neck. it works out great for my applications. they both work well to split for clean tones as well. I happened across this config about 11-12 years ago and think it's an under-rated combo for hard rock and metal.

Then you would LOVE the DiMarzio LiquiFire in the neck ;) It has a similar character but much more personality. It's just better in everything it does, believe me.

isn't that the Pettruci (sp?) pup of choice? good suggestion! thanks!

Exactly. Try it out if you have the chance. I was using the Full Shred neck for quite some time but never really got along with it. The LiquiFire, on the other hand, was instant love! I can only recommend it.
