pickups going "microphonic"?

Ever hear of this? I was explaining to a fellow musician yesterday that the bridge pup in my Gibson LP Studio creates a high pitch feedback (similar to when a microphone feeds back) whenever I'm too close to my amp on high volumes. He said it sounds like the pup might have gone "microphonic" & will have to be replaced.

Could this be true? - Thanks

Re: pickups going "microphonic"?

well, Neil Young's pickup on his old LP is notoriously microphonic (he claims he could probably sing through it), but he likes it

It happens. Wax potting the pickup is usually the cure. Lew
