Pickups in Ash body

I recently grabbed a cool deal at a pawnshop for a Parker P-38($250). It has an HSS config w/ fishman/wilkinson piezo bridge and compared to my Warmoth Super Strat build it's way thinner sounding. My warmoth is chambered alder w/ Flame maple top CS 69 neck, TS mid, Evo bridge.500k pots but resistors on the single coils to make them see 250k. I know the Korean Parker branded pups may be low quality so I ordered Seymour Duncan SSL-1's neck ,middle and a Duncan Distortion for the bridge. My question is, will this still be too bright? It's a fairly thin Ash body in the quirky parker style but the neck and middle stock tones are pretty stratty. any insight? which pot 250 0r 500k -I've heard that the Duncan Distortion can be kinda bright. .thanx

here's a pic:

I have SSL1s in the neck and middle of an ash strat...sounds great. My personal taste would be to go with something more vintage for the bridge bucker. I think the 59b is possibly the best bucker SD make. It all depends on what you need it for though.

Welcome to the forum!

Well I like my HFS from my PRS CE-24 you know "hot fat screams" so I guessed the closest Duncan would be the Duncan Distortion{HFS's are a little expensive}. I play heavy rock and like high output for the bridge thru my JSX or Bassman and various Dirt boxes. Only use the neck or neck mid for Hendrix/SRV light crunch tones .

i really know nothing about the higher output duncan buckers because i tend to stay with the vintage range ones. The SSLs should be just what the doctor ordered for jimi/SRV stuff though.

I say go 250k all around. If the DD is too hot for the SSL-1's (it may very well be), try an alnico V in there and turn it into a JB. 250k pots with a JB in an ash body is a wonderful sound, and the JB mixes well with SSL_1's, especially when split.

I have a JB and a pair of DiMarzio SDS-1s in my Jake E. Lee Replica which has an Ash body and I really like the overall feel of the guitar.

Interesting. I have some A5's magnets and love to experiment making a DD into a JB sounds like a fun alternative! I'll try and see which I like best.

I just got the same guitar. Please report how a JB sounds in yours. I'm thinking of JB and 2 Classic Stack Plus set or PATB3 and 2 PA-STK1n set.:scratchch
