Pickups In Korina Body Feed Me Back

I Would like to receive any members feedback for pickups used in Korina body guitar.

I have an Ibanez pre serial Rocket Roll (cira 1973) yea the lawsuit yada yada copied from the 57 Gibson Flying V. I had changed the pickups that were allready changed when purchased in 1976 to SD and by chance put in a Custom in the neck and JB in the bridge. Later I tried a set of 59 but swaped back to the custom / JB set. I enjoy the combination and have learned how to adjust amplifier and tone settings to play many different music trends.

Browzing I noticed some preference to Custom / JB configurations.

I did not realize back then that I was using two bridge pickups but I still like the results.

FWIW, those lawsuit Korina Ibanez guitars are actually ash not Limba wood...as for the pickup choice I would personally not use a Custom in the neck but if you dig it thats all that matters...If it were my guitar I would consider putting the Custom in the bridge (or maybe leaving the JB) and dropping either a 59 or a Jazz in the neck...

I thought so TGIF, a lot of stuff billed as korina is just that "color" finish.

You can see the difference in just the grain texture- those Ibanez Korinas have an ash grain,- real Limba or Korina has a white mahogany grain

All I have to go on is the forums from Ibanez.com and IbanezCollectors.com. It is truly listed as Korina. Pre serial number models. I could snap a pic close up to verify the grain. I would like to know for sure too.

It has seemed that I have received more response on the korina than I expected. As I stated all I have to go on is what I have read in Ibanez forums doing research on my guitar. I read that the Rocket Roll pre serial also has the korina in the phrase. I am not sure if the word Korina notes the material of the Ibanez or the association to the Gibson 57.

As far as the pickups I still have my 59 neck, maybee I will reflect soon.

Custom bridge/59 neck is common for V's.

Just eye balled body closely. Has very distiintive grain and there are two layers of 1 x 6 glued with offset joint. So well booked that it is hardly noticable.

59 in the neck say yee. Still reflecting.

EVH used a korina explorer on the first album. Runnin' with the Devil, You Really Got me etc.. He often said in interviews that it was korina and the new ones (new in the late 70's were ash), so according to him, they were both.

We all know Eddie would never steer us wrong in an interview. ; )

Yea, corectomundo. Early explorer korina, evh cut a big chunk from the rear and it never sounded the same.

But I am now learning that from the pickguard of my v early 1975 pre sn. japanese ash and there were no V's from Ibanez made from korina.

It still freaks me out to look at a pic of 57 Gib V and my Ibanez Too close. And I love to play it. smooooth!

I deleated my above post because everytime the korina debate comes up I must sound like a broken record...since there is some confusion I will try and re post what I put up lastnight...

All of the Korina Ibanez stuff is ash bodies and depending on the age a maple or mahogany neck, the Epiphone stuff that is Korina is also Ash or sometimes Bleached Mahogany and/or Ash...

Korina is a honey coloured stain Gibson applied to the first Flying V's and Exploresr as well as a few hundres Skylark lap steels in the 50's. Later on in the early 80's the reissues the V and Explorer as well as the Moderne, in the 90's they did some more V's and Explorers and the Korina finish also showed up on a few LP's, LP Jr's and a handfull of SG's...these guitars were made from a wood called Limba, this Limba wood was finished in a finish called Korina.

The wood is Limba and the finish is Korina...now , Epiphone and the Lawsuit Ibanez as well as several other companies out there offer instruments in Korina...that doesn't make it Limba. Some other companies do offer Korina instruments that are indeed made form Limba wood.

So the truth is this in a nut shell...your Lawsuit V IS a Korina finish but it is NOT made from Limba wood...

Awesome history, After having it for 26 years I have learned more about the thing in 24 hours.

This weekend from my 3 sd pickup stock, I intend to put the 59 in the neck but I am not sure if I shound leave the jb in or put the custom down to bridge. I like the way it sounds now and still not sure.

I do appreciate all the informative responses and suggestions. If any other members have some preferences on the "v" with japanese ash and kornia finish. Please hit me with it.

That's pretty interesting. I saw some pics of those 70's Destroyers and the grain looked straighter than the typical ash we see on Fenders.

So being (northern?) ash in the 70's, with that big body, were those Ibanez super heavy?

Heavy, During my awakening yesterday I noticed the same thing on just the Explorers in another forum called "Destroyers". Also interview with EVH.

After checking out your collection all I can say is "Damm" I mean "Double Damm". It was fantastic to see your collection and read some of the notes on the equiptment. I am glad to note that you still play all of your babies.
