Pickups suggestion ...

Hi,

Currently i have EMG85 and 81 installed in my ibanez sz520 and it is great for what they are. But, the thing is I have change the battery once in a while, i don't like that!! i'll never know when is the battery's gonna die!! like last time when we're jamming with my mates, it died!! :smack:

So, i kinda stick my mind to SD pickups these days, that the facts that i just installed SD invaders on my other guitar (love it!!)

I play detunings alot with my ibanez sz520 (tune to B), i use single rectifier amplifier. I play metal, rock such as dream theater, sevendustSo, i have a few ideas of what i want:

1. SD SH-1 59 for the neck
2. SD SH-5 duncan custom for the bridge or SH-6

suggestion?? or any other SD model?

Dimebucker is in the same line of thought.

Since you've already been invaded in your other guitar maybe something else like a C5 or JB with A2.

I wouldn't underestimate the amount of wildfire a '59 can put out either. Demon, too.

you reckon 59 on the bridge would nice for detuning as well??

EMG 9v should last four months. You could leave your cable in everyday and the 9v would last for a month. But if you liked the EMG combo, you could look at the DiMarzio D Activator's. They give a EMG 81 and 85 type sound, without the need for a battery.

I wanna get away from active pup for sure. I had a problem with dimarzio in the past so i kinda wanna dont wanna go back in the same path

What were the problems you had with DiMarzio pickups?

I think you need to look at the Duncan Distortion or Dimarzio Super Distortion.

Four months? The battery should last closer to a year.

do you use a stereo jack or normal(with mono jack the battery is drained, even if no plug is installed). I've had my emg's in active use for 3 years without ever needing a battery change. If you played 3 hours a day, it still would take closer to 2 years before needing a battery change, so either something is wrong or something is *really* wrong!

My EMG's batteries get changed once a year, whether they need to be or not.

There's something wrong with your set up if you're always running out of battery.

For your low tunings the Custom is perfect for the bridge. For the neck I'd look at a Jazz to keep things tight over the '59.

I have a '59/Custom combo in one of my SG's and the '59 can get muddy in the lower tunings. Very Stoner/Sludge. Which I dig for this guitar.

Ok, I screwed up a bit; this is lifted from the EMG site:

"If you left your guitar plugged in day and night, the battery should still last a month. Under normal playing conditions, you would probably be looking at changing the battery twice a year. Of course, you should treat these numbers conservatively and not try to drain every last uA out!"
