looking for a pair of humbuckers to replace my stocks on my tele.

looking for the warm, saturated, ballsy with notes clarity when doing power chords
singing sweet leads when on neck.

i believe i need brighter pickups as my guitar body is agathis.

I play pop rock/ alternative stuff
Search foosiongmusic on youtube and thats how i sound.

Rig will be pitchblack> midnight30 sonicsoujorn> sansampgt2> midnight30 serenityreverb> bossce2> bossdd7

Amp is a orange micro terror with 12oclock on tone and 10oclock on gain.

Custom/'59 hybrid and Pearly Gates neck would be an interesting combo. Though when I think of humbuckers in a Tele in a rock setting, I think of a JB and a '59n.

Re: pickups that will never go wrong

if I don't even read what kind of guitar, the combination of pups that can never go wrong is this.

Vintage output: Pearly bridge, Seth in neck
Medium output: PATB3 blues saraceno bridge (or 59/custom hybrid), screaming demon neck
high output: alternative 8 or black winter bridge, screaming demon neck.

Then I read, it's for a tele and that only strengthens my idea about those pickups cause I see the combinations i mentioned work in a les paul, strat or tele.

Re: pickups that will never go wrong

I'd go with black winters and possibly a new body. I have never heard good reports on an agathis body.

pearly gates set fo sho.
Warm yes.
sweet singing lead in the neck.
ballsy, bright and clear all at the same time on the bridge.
does everything you describe.
great in teles. The pgn is as good as it gets. The extra bite of the pgb lets your natural twangy tele character thru.

Wow, well you do see everything about this place.....but even so I would have hesitated to predict Black Winters being recommended for pop-rock.

Re: pickups that will never go wrong

They are bright, ballsy, with clarity. They have singing sweet leads on the neck. Sounds like what the user is after, marketing aside

Most expected choice by name and marketing? No. Would they actually be a good choice? I think so. I was also considering some advice from Tim at BKP about overcoming body wood. He claims that the higher output pickups tend to impose more of their character on the wood, and with agathis, this is going to be a good thing.

Re: pickups that will never go wrong

Thats new... someone asks for pup suggestions and they get a suggestion to get a different guitar body....

Nahh.. its ok.
ive read to also people saying that agathis aint the best if in quest for tone.

Hever theres a connection with me n this guitar that i think upgrading the parts is worth it imho. Just like my squier cali strat
:)

Was looking at the artec gch 1 as i was previously blown away hy the artec dual rail.i purchased for my strat.

Re: pickups that will never go wrong

AIIP regulars, AIIP Slashes, PGs, or some combination of two of those models. If you have an amp without a lot of headroom, or you use a lot of overdrive via pedals, I'd suggest the regular AIIPs. If you have more powerful amps, I'd go for the Slashes or PGs, as their hotter output won't make the amp mush out as much.

Re: pickups that will never go wrong

Well, actually it's P-90, Ime. It works in alder, ash, and mahogany body; maple and mahogany neck; short-scale and long-scale. I'm sure it works in agathis too. Many people love Squier VM Special II, for example. That said, for hb I'd go with what Orpheo and Doc said: Alt8 or PATB-3 bridge - Screamin' Demon neck. Tried them in different guitars with satisfying results.

Re: pickups that will never go wrong

JB & Jazz are a good workhorse combination. Nice and sweet in the neck and a versatile unit in the bridge.

Having said that I am getting a little bored with mine. I've been running them in both a LP and a Dot. I've been planning on a set of P-Rails for my Dot for some time and one day I'll get around to it.

I'm a real P-90 fan and have been for years. I also probably would have suggested P-90s, but he specifically asked for humbuckers. For a more vintage tone and output the PATB-3 is not a bad suggestion. I think that the Alt 8 just gives you more of everything and works so well in just about any guitar/any wood.

Re: pickups that will never go wrong

I haven't found a better bridge pick-up (for my applications of course) than the Custom. Bright but not too bright, ballsy, crunchy yet fat and will do cleans just fine (not a dedicated dirty pick-up). It's just a great all arounder.

It pairs great with the PGn (which I have in a LP) and the SEth Lover (in another les paul)... the '59 would be a great match too.

No need to look at complicated choices here (no offense but stating a home-made hybrid in the first reply...wow), from what you ask I think that'll do just fine.

Re: pickups that will never go wrong

There is nothing better for power chords than the APH1 and maybe the APH2.

And the neck version is a good insurance against not being too boomy, which you will need in a long-scale hardtail.

I thought I had replied to this thread already? Where'd it go?

Re: pickups that will never go wrong

Seymour Duncan SH-8 Invader
Works for Tom Delonge (Blink-182)
kind of a pop-punkish guy...?

My friend used to have one, great note clarity and individual string definition, even when gain-driven.
Fits the bill in the elusive "alternative" category of music.
Better to have too much output then not enough

Re: pickups that will never go wrong

For a tele......I constructed a rosewood tele body with bocote top from Warmoth with a solid maple neck (no additional fretboard).
I ordered a Concept Set (likely a close if not mirror image of the Jazz/JB combination and what Seymour Duncan used for his Tele Gib of the 1970's and his re-issues made over the last few years. More dominating than an Antiquity set......more quack than an SSL-1 pup......sounds to me like more mids....and simply a high quality set of pickups (my vote for can't go wrong.....price and quality). Ask the Custom Shop.

Well, my response for "which two humbuckers?" is always "JB and Jazz". Can't go wrong with those two.

But I came here to say this: I humbly suggest that you move the reverb pedal to the end of your chain.
