Pics of my Mic Collection

A few years ago, I owned a recording studio, which I packed up and brought to my home studio. Most of my mics have been stored away, and tonight I brought them out of the cabinet and much to my surprise, I owned more than I even knew. These are some seriously nice mics! I just bought the B.L.U.E. Baby Bottle at the incredible bargain of $300, but my other fave's are the GT, Earthworks, Audio Technicas, and Sennheisers. Check it out!

Here's all of them.

Groove Tube GT-66 Tube Condenser, best for vocals, acoustics, distant electrics.

B.L.U.E. Baby Blue, best for vocals, acoustics, distant electrics, and choirs.

Audio Technica matched 4041 3/4" condensers, best for drum overhead, pianos, and acoustic instruments. These are the ones you'll see on tall mic stands, hanging above everything.

Earthworks SR-69, a superb live vocal condenser, mostly used for recording vocalists that prefer a handheld in the studio. Works great on acoustic instruments too. If you know anything about Earthworks, you know they're fave's amongst producers.

Sennheiser MD-421's, best for electric guitar, drum toms, bass amps.

Shure SM-57's, industry standard for electric guitar amps, snare, and toms.

Shure Beta 52. One of the very best Kick Drum Mics.

Nice!

My bro wants a Shure Beta 52 so bad :)

I love my Audio Technica 2020 although it's not that expensive I like it very much.

Dude, you're almost as bad as Bryan Adams. A buddy of mine that's met him told me his pastime/hobby/love is collecting mic's.

Re: Pics of my Mic Collection

Do singers get GAS for mics and drool over pics like these? :dunno:

Mine doesn't. He just keeps buying lights, lasers, smoke machines etc. I think we even have a bubble machine on the way. Just the job for those intimate pub gigs.

Re: Pics of my Mic Collection

If only he were better at USING them...:smack: :laugh2:
Not to worry, clip's a'comin. :27:

I forgot about my RCA replica hanging on the wall, which I found at a garage sale for $4. Sounds terrible though.

Look Jolly, no garbage strewn about! LOL

I went to the Vaccuum Tube Valley Expo last year, and took these pics of a broadcast mic collection.

SA-WEET! I have heard the Earthworks and they are incredible - I played with the QT1 (I think) with the really small diaphragm - they blew my brains out.

Also, with the 421's, do they all have that goofy plastic proprietary clip that begs to be broken?

Re: Pics of my Mic Collection

Nice little collection there!

I've owned a pair of Baby Bottles for a long, long time...one of them is serial number 44 or 45...heheheheheh

I like 'em a lot on electric guitar amps when combined with another mic like a 47 or 421 to snarl it up a bit. They get good body...not a favorite for vocals though...

All those mics work well on a variety of things...try & get outta the "these are for ______" headspace and use microphones for recording.

I love 'em...stick any mic in a different spot & it's a WHOLE different thing!

Those 4041's rock pretty hard on bass amps & rack toms...Beta 52 is a suprisingly good gee'tar amp mic; 421's rarely suck on anything but I really like 'em a lot for kick drum. One of those (or even a 57!) inside kick with the GT66 outside, about 2-3 feet from the front head would sound great!

Is there a figure 8 pattern on that mic?! Try that...

I've used SM57's for acoustic guitars before...sometimes a "good" mic is TOO good 'ya know?!

Whuddever works...
