Pics of strat with chrome pickup covers...and rant about neck pup not working!!!

Well i just spent ages putting my new pickup covers on my warmoth strat, and put a new set of strings on, only to find ive disturbed something and now the neck pickup doesnt work!!!

I shouldhave really checked the pickups before putting the whole new set of strings on :smack:

But what do you all think...im actually thinking i like the white better...hmmmm :smack: :smack: :smack: :smack:

I'd leave them on for a month, or at least 2 weeks, to see if you like them. Any change in my guitar affects how I think about it. I'd wait.

im really resenting the covers now though cos its because of them i spent a few hours on it and put new strings on it only to find the neck pickup doesnt work and i dont even like the chrome much!

might leave them on for a bit though, ive still gotta fix my neck pickup though

Do you think i could just unwind the new strings, do my work, and wind them back up without having to put a new set on?

I think the covers look awesome. If you do wanna get rid of 'em PM me.... In fact, where did you get them? Custom made or what...?
Anyway, I say since the strings are new, try fixing the pick-up and re-using the strings, but don't get too upset if you break one or 2 of 'em....

they look great to me, a chrome switch tip would be a nice finishing touch IMO. as for the pickup and strings, just loosen the strings enough so that you can unscrew the guard and lift/slide it out under the strings (slide down toward the knobs). flip it over and fix the pickup then slide it back under, screw it on and tighten up the strings. this is what i do when my strat with EMGs needs a new battery but the strings are new(ish). just be careful not to scratch the body with the pots, switch bottom or pickup screws since they all stick down and can be sharp in areas.

I got the covers just from some standard catalogue, they are just chrome painted plastic, but they do look pretty convincing. They only cost me a buck or two each, just chump change really.

Im still torn though, but i just got up so im gonna get dressed and go rip my strat apart again! I should be able to loosen the strings and take them out of the pegs and get them totally out of the way and still be able to put them back i think because they've got that hole in the middle of the peg where the string anchors down into. I hope anyway :smack:

Well i just put the white covers back on and it looks much better!

And now to see if i can restring the same strings i just unwound totally...i think i should be able to, but ill find out soon enough

Ha yeah im with you there...they sucked! They looked pretty tacky, but im much happier now the old ones are back on and ive fixed the pickup problem, so although im back at square 1 i did learn how to take apart and work on a strat, what to look for with pickup problems, plus that you can take the same set of strings off and put them back on without having to chuck them out...that was a good one

White probably looks better on white pearl, but on a different guitar, those chrome covers would look cool on a black guard, along with a tremspaced, covered Duncan in an HSS.

oh yeah for sure on a different guitar they would look cool, but not on this guitar, just looked a bit tack
