Picture Wah or RMC-3?

So I'm looking at getting a new wah and I haven't tried any out yet, but from sound clips I've been looking over, I've come to think a Teese wah would be great to have. I originally thought of getting an RMC-3 as it has the controls for EVERYTHING and I could customize it to my liking, but now after hearing some clips of the Picture wah, I'm kind of digging that sound. I'm looking for a pretty basic 60s wah sound, so I figure the Picture would work pretty well for that.

So which would you guys recommend? Would it be very beneficial to have the RMC-3 and control over everything, or go with the Picture wah so I'm not tweaking until my fingers are numb and my foot is sore?

Re: Picture Wah or RMC-3?

Id say go with the RMC3

PW is a very nice sounding wah, but everyones ideal wah sound is a little different and unless the PW just happens to be perfect for you, you'd be happier with the RMC3 as you can make it a little fuller or deeper or louder or more cutting etc.

Its like buying an amp with no tone stack. It may be an awesome amp but sure, but you can't really tailor it to your sound. You need that tone stack to really dial it in.

RMC3 is the same way, its just going to give you the ability to tweak your sound so it better goes with the rest of your rig and to what you think your wah should sound like.

Its only what, $55 more than the PW and in the long run well worth it

Re: Picture Wah or RMC-3?

this gets asked A LOT, so here goes ... from Teese's website:

WHICH WAH?

The majority of email I receive deals with the question of “Which wah do I need?” The following information is a quick synopsis of my models that I’ve put together in hopes of explaining the differences in my models enough for you to be able to pick the right one for your needs.

RMC1 - Very dark wah, suitable for: bass guitar, single coil pickups or other lower strength pickups, detuned guitars. The RMC1 can get muddy, or lose definition, with high-output pickups.

RMC2 - Allows the user access to some tuning controls for tune-on-the-fly usage. The primary sound is very similar to the RMC1, although it is a bit brighter than the RMC1 at the #5/RMC1 sweep range. While the RMC2 may share a sweep range with another RMC model, it has its own sound and does NOT reproduce the sound of any other RMC models. The RMC2 works with most any pickup and any amp configuration.

RMC3 - This model CAN reproduce the sounds of all the other RMC models, but the controls are on the circuit board so they can't be hit during performance. The RMC3 is not designed to be tuned on-the-fly. The RMC3 works with most any pickup and any amp configuration.

PICTURE WAH (RMC4) - This is THE model if you want a classic wah sound. The PW works with most any pickup and any amp configuration.

WIZARD WAH (RMC5) - Slightly darker than a "normal" wah. The top end gets only a LITTLE brighter than the actual guitar sound. The WW has a very smooth overall sound - the low has close to the same signal strength as the mid and the top. The WW has a relatively modern sound and should not be thought of as a vintage-sounding wah. The WW works with most any pickup and any amp configuration.

WHEELS OF FIRE (RMC6) - Delivers a sonic replication of one of the old Macari wahs, but should not be thought of as an Italian sounding wah. Two entirely different animals. The WOF has an adjustable low end since not everybody likes the boomy bottom end of a real Macari. The top end is a LITTLE brighter than the WW but not as bright as the PW. The WOF works with most any pickup and any amp configuration.

JOE WALSH SIGNATURE WAH - Very similar in sound and characteristics to the RMC4 except with a faster physical sweep through the wah's throw. The faster sweep yields a slightly different mid-range than the RMC4.

Re: Picture Wah or RMC-3?

I own a RCM3 and am very pleased with it.

But that is only after spending a lot of hours tweaking it...

Picture Wah is pretty much set-up already and would be more useable for most guitarist.

The RMC3 does come with the settings to dial it in exactly like the PW keep in mind so you can "set and forget"

Though actually whats even better is to email Geoffrey with the sound your after and rig, and he'll actually send you his suggested settings for the RMC3 that will get you that sound.

I see a lot of people mention the fact that it has some tweakability as a bad thing, in that they spend to much time messing with it, but at least for me, once I have a sound in mind, its just a "thats the sound!" moment and once you get that, you put the cover back on and use it like any other wah.
