Piezo Pickups

Re: Piezo Pickups

The best sounding and tracking (for a synth) is the RMC system (www.rmcpickup.com).
I have tried the fishman, and the B-Band, and the RMCs are by far the best. I plug my piezos int o a Nanoverb and then into a 15" & horn loaded JBL EON.

Re: Piezo Pickups

The GraphTech GHOST system is top-notch as well.

As far as amps go, the SWR stuff is good but a buddy of mine sold his SWR for a Fishman Loudbox.

Re: Piezo Pickups

Don't think any are made- most PRS owners are a little on the traditional side to have such a thing on their guitars :)

Re: Piezo Pickups

+1 on the RMC .... love mine and i put it straight into a carvin ag100D with onboard effects with reasonably good results

the lrbaggs that was (is?) stock on the godin guitars was really nice when i was shopping ... with onboard 3 band active EQ it was top notch ... the yamaha AG stomp is really outstanding as a preamp unit / direct box and i saw in the new AMS catalog that they just came out with the AG magicstomp for $200 US

Actually, most PRS owners I know (and I know a LOT) would dig having piezos. The big problem is making irreversible mods since they tend to be a shot to the head when it comes to resale.

I believe GraphTech makes saddles that willl fit on a PRS trem. As for the irreversible part, you can route the piezo wires through the bridge pickup cavity into your control cavity (I know guys who've done this with both PRS trems and Les Pauls). Then it's just a matter of shoehorning the preamp into your control cavity and perhaps using a concentric pot to allow you to control the piezo and magnetic volume independently.

generally, how do you get the leads on the saddles into the control cavity?

Cut a notch in the underside of the bridge pickup ring. Run the leads from under the bridge through the notch. You can then run the leads into the control cavity along with the bridge pickup lead.
