OK, so what is in your repertoire when you hear this? It's easy when your whole band is there but what about when you het home after a couple of beers and your buds want to hear something?

Re: Play something...

Little Wing, then Sabra cadabra,
then I gotta play the darkness or smoke on the water cos they're the only songs my friends know. damn them.

Re: Play something...

I try not to hang out with muscian-types! Then they're impressed with everything you play! lol

Hmmm ... I only know Dokken songs, so if it's not gonna be Dokken, then gimme a key and let me noodle!!

Re: Play something...

That's when I take the dobro out of the case and put on my fingerpicks. I've never been a stand alone type guitar player but I can kick up a pretty good ruckus with a dobro. If you can hum it, I can probably pick it.

Re: Play something...

Ah yes, these are the situations every guitarist will find themself in once in a while.
Depending on who's asking I usually play something easy going with a feel good vibe and catchy melody/rythem. Mostly songs from: Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Chilli Peppers, Green day, Foo Fighters, Thrice or at least something that they'll probably know and/or is instantly playable with cold fingers.
Sometimes I like to play goofy stuff to make 'em laugh and impress them at the same time like the super mario or zelda theme. It all depends of the mood I'm in. (and the ones who are listening)

Re: Play something...

Ill play 'em some funny sounding chord exercises then mabye some SRV and metallica and anything that comes into my head...

Yes, I agree as long as it is something very distinctive. None of my local friends are metalheads at all, so I play "Dee" and people go, "oh, that's beautiful" then I play "Suicide Solution" and that ends that. "Hotel California" is a sure-hit. "Wanted Dead or Alive" is easy and memorable and chicks dig it.

Around the kids, just downtune to dropped D and chug away and it sounds like everything on the radio.

For a joke around musicians you gotta play "Stairway."

I do that, except for the solos of course. I have a ways to go for that.

Re: Play something...

Usually it will be one of my acoustic guitars and I will play anything from Clapton, Queen, Beatles, McCartney, classical or I will ask them to tell me a song and if know it fine or I'll have an attempt at busking the song. They can also pick songs from my extensive collection of music and I will play it for them - good to do so because how many of them actually know the words?.

Quite often I will let people play some of my beater guitars just to see what they can do.

Re: Play something...

some well known song. Layla, voodoo chile or walk this way go down well. May play nothing else matters.

Re: Play something...

Lots of Green Day, lots of Nirvana, a little Weezer, some Superjoint Ritual 'cuz their riffs are cool, Slayer's "Raining Blood", Converge's "The Saddest Day", and just whatever riffs pop up in my mind...

Re: Play something...

Whenever someone comes in my room and sees all the guitars, and then ask me, I turn up my stereo and play along with the backing track Manhattan by EJ pretty loud. They're usually really impressed lol !!!
