Man if these guitars were stock i bet they are rare! Maybe by chance the Humbucker Deluxe was a Standard with a Deluxe truss rod plate? Or i wonder if it said Deluxe on the back of the headstock... The 3 mini humbucker Deluxe must of been priced high i bet... By the way what finnishes were on these Deluxes?

They appeared to all be stock (and hang tags said as much, IIRC) I don't even think they were making Standards in the early 70s, IIRC, no? I din bother talking about them cos I knew they would be wayyyyyy outta my league $-wise. They were all various bursts..mostly cherry, plaintops..pancakes. One thing I loved about those Norlins back then was they "bursted" the backs of the necks..way cool!

A local vintage dealer near me has about three or four Deluxe LPs from the mid 50s

Do you mean Juniors? Deluxes were a late 60's through early 80s thing

That was a cool story! :bigthumb:

I don't get mny compliments on my playing, LOL...but when I do get them of course I'm flattered..buta couple guys were basically just breathing down my neck.

I'll say this...that amp def made me play a lil over the top..I know through a really good cab, it would be incredible!

Wildstar, it *was* fun..but at the same time maddening....I'd LOVE to have walked out with Dean though....that "V" neck is def one of the best I've felt. Big enough, but not huge. And it was just immaculately put together, and was just so easy to play without feeling "sloppy". The whole guitar was just super solid. I've been impressed with everything I've played from Dean recently, import or otherwise...ALOT of guitar for the $!

Ya my 76's Deluxe has a Bursted finnish on back of the neck..... It's a brown sunburst and the neck is a 3 piece maple with a nice burst to it... I'm pretty sure they made Standards in the mid 70's.... I've seen a few around

Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to bask in my unexpected moment of appreciation.

As soon as the kid said his piece and started to walk away, some burnout chimes in with "Dude, yeah!! What kind of amp is that?!", then without even pausing long enough for me to acknowledge his presence (much less his inquiry) he leans across me and sticks his face in the speaker grille, as if hoping to identify it by smell. The back of the guy's head was between my knees. I didn't even waste time on a "WTF?!" before I got the hell out of there.

Odd day, all round.

Nice writeup. I always enjoy reading these kinds of posts and living vicariously through those who aren't tied to a desk for the day. ;)

I agree - I was so surprised by how well done the guitar was. And how great it felt. I've found the same thing with most Schecters. I played around with an SE PRS yesterday, and it just didn't have anything going on. And I've played dozens of Strats/LPs/Teles in the last couple months - same thing: no spark.

Is it me? Or can it really be true that for $500 or so you can take home an inspiring, well-crafted, mojo-filled Korean import? I know I did with my Schecter. And ooooh that Dean...

The Hardtail I played was a USA model. I've not seen the Korean version yet. But based on my ML-79 and general concensus, I'd agree with your statement. My ML is a fabulous playing guitar...I mean REALLY good. Like on par with some REALLY high dollar instruments I've owned and better than more than a few. It has some very minor issues typical of many guitars regardless of price (needs new pups..though they are better than most...nut cut a little sloppy..I was having an issue with it eating strings alive, but I fixed that)

I'd rather have a "real" rosewood board, and "real" mahogany, and nitro finish....but c'mon....for around $450 it's an absolute steal. Plays great Sounds great! :bigthumb:

A super toneful, highly resonant early 90s CSB Paula Standard. MOJO! Best of all the paulas I played. It just needed too much work. Needed a re-fret and a new nut,new eectronics.. and some doofus put black grovers on it  I know I could got them down sev hundred, but just didn't want to put the money into it.

Guitars like those are usually the deals...

Unless you care more about looks then tone, who cares what it looks like?

I'm still kicking myself for passing on a '76 Tele YEARS ago that needed a refret...
