Played the slash a2p pups today..

And I think I'm in love. I've been meaning to try them forever but never got around to it. I was at my local GC demoing an EVH 5150 III (which has me questioning my choice of amps as well). Picked up an epi slash lp and proceeded to destroy my idea of what I go for in pickups. I've found that I generally go after high output ceramic pups more than anything else. But these pups just sounded perfect to me. Both clean and dirty.

I want to try them but I'm a little hesitant. I'm worried they won't have enough mids. My guitar isn't very middy to begin with. A friend of mine has 'em in a LP Studio and he let my try it through his AFD100 but the volume was so low that I couldn't really tell you what it sounded like, other than it sounded like an electric guitar.

I hear there's a 25 watt EVH lunchbox head coming at the end of the year or early 2016.

How did this set do with a heavy overdrive/distortion?

Re: Played the slash a2p pups today..

I have a Les Paul Custom refretted with jumbo frets (makes a tonal difference for sure).

I tried out the Slash S2Pros, the Whole Lotta Humbuckers and the DiMarzio PAF 36th annis.

Overall, the WLHs are the best. Pure and simple. Everything about them is better. But I preferred the Slash pickups. They just sounded more like I was playing rather than being superbly balanced. I absolutely love my set.

The PAF 36ths were great too and would have won overall if only they had just a tiny smidge more output.

Yeah they really are that good, a great hard rock/blues type humbucker, lots of crunch in the bridge, if anything I wish the neck was not quite as hot, but man does it sing under gain. I think the best part is the single notes seem to stand out like you typically get with a hotter pickup. I really think people sell them short saying they are just slightly hotter A2ps with slashes logo, they are their own beast for sure.

I just got a set wired up in my PRS last night. I should be able to get some playtime this afternoon/evening. I'll get back to you.

Cool.....Is that PRS mahogany? Ive never had one so I wouldnt know, thats why I ask....Cant wait to hear them

Re: Played the slash a2p pups today..

Ok I've gotta say, I was playing pretty loud with a band today. I've never actually been able to turn up this loud before so I'm still trying to dial in the amp. But under my usual volume settings, when everybody wanted to play quietly haha, the pups just seem to sing. Harmonics weren't quite as easy as I'm used too, but that could be me. (Cut my hand pretty good at work today)

Ouch man, that hand has to get better quick then.....you should record some stuff and stick it up on sound cloud for us to hear your new pups....that will give those of us that are considering those something to compare to.....cant go off what the old YouTube shows.....
