Playing along with a CD?

What equipment would you guys suggest for a rack to play along with CD's for practice. Ideally I was thinking some type of mixer that I could run the signal through to my speakers. Something real simplistic. Any ideas?

A mixer is exactly the device you need to do this. ("Mixing" two signals.) ;)

One of those little Behringers would be good for this. If you need rack-mount capability, most of your choices will probably jump way up in price.

EBay's got some nice stuff, if you don't mind going that route.

Yes, what I was thinking was a cd/mixer combo. Just something easy. I guess it really doesn't have to be a rackmount. That would just be a bonus.

I now have my Engl 580/1x12 practice rig sitting right in front of my hi fi for just such instances: play backing tracks or whatever, and jam along with 'em. With a little bit of digital elbow grease, I've even made my own loops for solos I'm working on. Works great ...

Last month I scored a Behringer MX 602A for $25 on ebay. I use it to mix the electric and acoustic signals from my Parker (so I only use one output to the board). I'm sure it would work great for your purposes, too. Cool mixer for the price.

My method is usually just jamming with my radio and CDs and my half stack. Kind of not the best since I either here my CD or my rig as too loud. Would a mixer method be better? I also use the TASCAM guitar trainer which is really cool, but I usually feel the need to jam and play live and loud! How/what do you do with the mixer?

Wattage, the Tascam GT1 is way cool ! You can slow down the speed of the recording by up to half without changing pitch, you can loop a particular riff...and the fun just starts there.

It's not cheap at about $150. street price, but it's a lot of fun to use.

I plug my CD player, MP3 player, or Laptop upto an extra combo amp I have.

I've got a kickin' stereo setup in my basement that I play CD's thru. Check out Best Buy. That's where I bought mine. I think I paid around $500.00 for the receiver and the speakers.

a fun thing to do is also the jam to the weather channel....

sounds stupid i know, but lots of fun

What do you guys think? It think this will work.
