Playing outside

Hey guys,

We all know there is a big difference in how an amp sounds compared to playing inside and outside. I was wondering though, do speaker cabs help keep the tone more similar to how it is inside when playing outside? - not so thin and compressed? I only have a 1x12 Mesa Boogie Mark III.

Just something I think would be interesting to talk about.

Thanks.

Re: Playing outside

You definitely have to move more air. So if you aren't getting to the masses with the PA, then you do need to beef it up. But tonally speaking, I don't think any cabinet fluctuations can approximate inside vs. outside conditions. In other words, I don't think you can say something like "my 2x12 outside sounds like my 2x10 inside" or vice versa. If you're trying to get your sound to the audience then (for outside) multiple cabs spread apart is better than one big stack. Inside one big stack sound source can still spread and fill well if it's bouncing around the room.
