please help before i freak out!

Re: please help before i freak out!

Recheck all of your ground solder joints. You may have a cold solder joint. If you touch metal on the guitar and the noise stops you have a grounding issue. Do you have the Trem grounded? Just asking as that is not shown on the diagram you are using.

Just because it is physically in contact doesn't necessarily make the connection good. If it stops humming when you touch it, thats a grounding problem. Something is not wired correctly or there is a bad joint somewhere.

Do you have the left hand, unused tabs on the pots grounded to the pot casing?

Yes you are supposed to do this. Not doing so is a common error.

Re: please help before i freak out!

i reacently saw a star method of grounding http://www.guitarnuts.com/wiring/shielding/shield3.php

do you think i should try this instead?

of what i saw first hand all of the ground wires shouldnt go on the pot but on a seperate metal plate built by me. right?
anyone ever try this?

i just dont know what else to do.
i checked all the joints and they were good. i also re-did the output jack just in case.
weird..

ok i forgot to say that i dont have the tone control hooked to anything. but i have it that way on my Ibanez as well.

could that be it?

so i just have one volume control and no tone ( cause i dont like the way the tone messes with the sound of the humbucker and then messes with the single coils)

sorry about that..

ground the back of the tone pot and see if that helps

Re: please help before i freak out!

is your output jack grounded properly - didn't revese the lugs (or get a stereo jack by accident and don't know what to do with it - been there personally)

how are you grounding to the tremelo - it takes a lot of heat to solder to that hunk of metal and most people dont' have the patience to do it properly with the low watt soldering guns from radio shack
its takes me nearly 30 seconds to get it hot and i use one of htose industrial soldering guns the old tv repair shops used to use

is everything being grounded to the top of the volume pot (jack pot, pickups) and then to the tremelo ground?
