Please help me sort these out, bunch of ?'s for strat bucker

I want a trem spaced bucker. I really like the sound of the antiquities whenever I heard them and on the Duncan site. Had an Duncan EVH years ago and liked it.

So I think want to stay with an alnico II. I did like a '59 I had once. If I swap the V for an alnico II would it be an EVH? I want something very clear with lots of harmonic overtones and brightness. I don't want compressed sounds at all.

There's also Pearly Gates but I never liked them in those Lone Star Fender strats. I think they came with an Alnico V though, but they turned me off to them.

Back when I ordered my EVH/'78 they came around 8K and not 9K. Now they all come at 9K ohm. Why the change?

Also I really like the Blown '59, clip sounds great.

Then there's this "I'M the 1" pickup that I just read about. Geesh...this is confusing.

a 59 with an alnico II magnet is not an evh.

the pg+ is what was in the lone star strat and i didnt like it either. i LOVE the normal pearly gates bridge.

when you say "clear and brightness" that makes me think alnico V

what guitar is this going in? what other pups are in that guitar?

If you liked the '78 model, you'll probably like a 59/A2. Not exactly the same but it's in the ballpark.

Well I think I want something close to an EVH/78 aggressive with good brightness. When I hear the A5's I hear more upper mids, which gives a little harsh tone.

The EVH was still bright but not in the A5 upper mids. That's the kind of highs I want. Not as harsh.

I've been listening to tons of clips the past week, and the best sounding pickups every single time had A2's in them. Blown 59, EVH Frankie, '78, I'm wondering if I can get out cheap and pick up a used Pearly Gates. I'm just turned off from those Fenders.

I'm worried a bit t 59 with an A2 might be a little weak in an alder strat.

Why not the Slash a2p set?

;)

Check them out... Their DC values are a bit higher, so kinda closer to that of an EVH. But then again there is winding magic... One should never underestimate that.

While I agree with what you say in general, I should say that generalizations are bad. E.g. a Brobucker is a a5 pickup. But is meaty and not like a "59" though. So its not the mag alone... Am not saying that you should go for a Brobucker though, it is a bit compressed. I think you'd be better of with Slash a2ps.

That said, I realized that my recommendation is a bit flawed.

Slash's a2ps has long legs and doesn't come in TB size. And only braided cable.

Maybe you could get it as a custom floor shop order (was that the name?) with short legs and 4c cables?

By the way, have you thought about PATB-3. It is hell of a pickup. Sort of 59ish yet is more meaty and fuller sounding.

Or... put an Alnico 8 in a '59. That'll rock your world.

I had a brobucker which I got after the EVH Duncan. It was too closed sounding and compressed. If I was going to order up a Slash pickup, I would just get the EVH err '78 one. I'm trying to find something similar, but cheaper!

Generally I like single coils tones because they are so clear and uncompressed and really nice harmonics. I want a bucker with some of those attributes. I did like the EVH and should just stay with what I like.

I have already tried to order the Slash's with short legs and 4con. They won't do it outside of the Custom Shop due to it being a signature model. So it can be done at the normal Custom Shop price of $160 per pup. I am settling for A2Pros myself, though I am always going to want that little extra push of the Slashs.
