Please help me with my addiction (Bought another fender)

Greeting all,

Well I did it again. Did my weekly treck to GC. The sales guy I always use asked if I was interested in another strat. I told him I was a reborn Music Man guy but they didn't have anything I liked (had a couple of Axis guitars which I don't like) and was not here to buy another guitar.

Well he showed me a brand new 1962 reissue sunburst strat that was in mint condition. Well again I wasn't going to shell out $1300 for it but he then told me that they were making room for the new Fenders for the holidays and would let it go for $600. I took it for a test drive and was in a frothy stupor when I was done. He also had a standard American strat he could offer me for that price (blk/maple neck) but after playing the '62 I just had to have it. Although he was selling it "as is" with no case but with all the accessories. Only thing I have to do now is buy a 5 way selector switch because 62 has the vintage 3 way selector.

So Looks like I have to part with my Music man Sub 1 because after playing this guy there was no contest. Man I need to take a break from that place before I'm broke or my girlfriend kills me, whichever happens first.

Re: Please help me with my addiction (Bought another fender)

id leave the '62 switch cause its original etc. and will retain the value.

And dude, get a Music man axis supersport and it'll blow away those strats...

Well I'll still save the 3 way switch and if I decide to sell it I'll put it back on. I believe most of the early Fender reissues come with an additional 5 way included.(I'll have to call my guy at GC and ask why one didn't come with it)

The Axis are good guitars but they are way too expensive. Plus the Dimarzio pickups are a little to hot for me and I hate locking trems!!! But MM necks are the best around. I love the Silhouette models and will probably get one someday.

That's awesome man. You can't deny the mojo of a guitar!

Re: Please help me with my addiction (Bought another fender)

Its a reissue. I doubt changing the switch will hurt value much at all.

I thought the exact same thing. Do what you want with it, it's YOUR axe.

Good score!

And it's not an addiction. It's a hobby. :)

Check out ebay, I just scred a near mint Axis w/M-90s for $500 w/hard case! I agree that they are too expensive new, but resale is really low on these. you cna't beat the top notch materials they use. Check around for wierd keywords like "music man" and listings under "ernie ball", or "EB". Sometimes other peolpe don't find those listings and you can have the bidding all to yourself. I let this one go to the end and walked with it for the listing price. By the way what GC do you go to? I used to work at a couple in the suburbs.

Yea I usually look a couple times a week for Music Mans on ebay. But they usually just have the Axi models. Although I have seen some really sweet Albert Lee Models from time to time/

I usually go to the GC in Villa Park. Pretty good people there and you can usually grab a good price for a guitar or amp. I also hit the one in Berkley off 79th & Cicero ave and the one Lincoln Park ocacsionally. Although the one in Lincoln Park is pricey because of that lovely Chicago sales tax.

Re: Please help me with my addiction (Bought another fender)

Yeah, I guess the albert Lee's are harder to come by on Ebay. There are some good guys on the EB forum. Alot of guys try and sell there stuff there http://www.ernieball.com/forums/index.php?.

I used to date an AM that worked at that store. Stay away, those girls will break your heart. Do you know Rob Cannahm(?)? I think he's an AM, used to go out drinking with him when I worked for the company, he's good guy. That's probably the best GC in the area.

I think the 62 Reissue is supposed to have a 5 way switch included in the case candy.
You may want to ask the salesman if he has one in his file cabinet. It won't hurt the value at all, since most strat players hate 3 ways. That's an incredible cost deal on that guitar, since you usually see them used for around $750. After you sell the other guitar, and recoup most of the money, you can sell those stock 57/62 pickups, and replace them with an Antiquity Surfer set with 5 way and Fralin Blender pot.
Then, you'll have a strat that would put a tear in the eye of Leo himself.

I love MM's.
In my dream rig (which is not very far away at all), id have a Musicman Axis and my peavey wolfgang i have now as backup.

Re: Please help me with my addiction (Bought another fender)

I wish MM offered more of a choice in woods, but yeah me too. I was a big Tele guy, but after getting this ash MM90, I don't think I'll ever have a need for one. It's got everything I love about the Tele, but refined and with higher quality materials than most Customshop Fenders.

I usualy hit the MM forum once and while to read all the gossip. Lot of Petrucci worship on that site. Only complaint I've heard about MM is that its takes awhile to get the guitars made. I guess average wait is 4-5 months. But I if you want quality you have to wait for it.

The guy at GC who usually helps me out is Rob Burgess. Always helps me out and gives me a good deal everytime with no BS. When I bought the strat he threw in a 12 month extended warrenty for free which was very cool. The Villa Park GC is the best one in the Chi-town areain terms of wheeling and dealing. I must say though the Lincoln Park store has the best selection of vintage gear, but the sales people are a bit snobbish and you can't really bargain with them.

I may be mistaken, but I believe that's why EVH jumped ship.
