I have a Fender Vibro Champ XD that I love but want to improve. What can I do in terms of speaker switching, tubes, etc.? I play mostly blues and a little southern rock. Thanks!
That is a great little amp. I wouldn't futz with it. Speaker switching or playing with the tubes isn't going to give you mind blowing changes. A Fender is going to sound like a Fender. I would just take the $100 or so you would spend trying to upgrade the Champ and start putting it into a new amp fund. You would be about a 1/3 of the way to owning another cool little tube amp. A Blackstar or a Vox would give you a completely different vibe.
Great amp but if he were to get another Fender I would suggest something that doesn't sound like a Fender. The OP already has one. The only other Fender I would suggest is the Excelsior.
Id find a supersonic or a used prosonic if you start hunting.
I'd also crack that little amp open and wire it into a ragin cajun 10in or even a 12in of some sort. look online for super champ vids of them running into different speakers and assume your baby superchamp will react much the same way.
And keep it unless a superchamp x2 falls into your lap.
