Please Help / Wiring Question / Why Doesn't This Work?

So...my tone works like a second volume control. I have tried several different configurations (please pardon all of the odd solder mess) and two new caps which have given me nothing but a tone that is either on or off or a volume control. Please see photo example.

I think you need to move the cap over one lug.

Ignore the 2p/2t switches and the treble bleed.

Your wiring looks fine to me. The tone control is wired correctly. The biggest cause of this is mistakenly having a .47uf instead of a .047uf. That "zero" is the difference between a volume control and tone control.
Can you take a pic of the other side of that cap?

473 is correct for a .047uf cap. So, there's some other problem. Unless, of course, Amazon screwed up. Make sure your cap is 473, rather than 474.

Editted: I meant 474. The main thing is that your cap is 473. That's 47, as significant digits, followed by 3 zeros. Which is 47,000 pf's, which = 47 nf's, which = .047 uf's.

Yes it's a 473



Maybe the caps are bad? I couldn't get a good reading on them. I went back to the original configuration with the old pots and Cap .05 mfd and still not perfect but at least I have some tone adjustment.



I'm also thinking of wiring the jack ground direct instead of counting on the bracket to make the connection.

Any other ideas?
