POD HD PRO vs POD HD (Desktop)

I want to record audio but not sure which one here is better, I know the PRO is more expensive but not sure I need the pro...

I will be leaving it right beside my computer and recording with it right beside my computer so I am not transporting it anywhere...

what do you guy's think? I really want to record but want to do it the most affordable and best way possible, and I thought of using a mic up to my speaker but that is just a lot of unnecessary cords on the ground so I would rather spend a little more and get something proper.

Thanks. (not sure if this is the right place to put this thread but anyway)

Soundwise, they are exactly the same. It is the ins & outs that are different. Pick which one has the ins and outs you need (don't forget the pedal version either, cheaper than the pro), and go with the version that has the right inputs and outputs. All have the same sounds, though...and the patches are compatible across devices.

Re: POD HD PRO vs POD HD (Desktop)

I have an HD desktop. I think it has slightly less goodness than the floor ones. Less models (although there's 3 or 4 that come with a firmware install), it's not uh...portable, I guess? it's sort of awkward sized and the i/o are all over the periphery of it. It's metal and sort of slides around, and the little screen is small and hard to read when you're not looking directly at it.

DL the Line 6 Monkey and the HD edit, and all the knob tweaking can happen in your computer which is nice. There's deeper editing features in the HD edit too. When attached via USB, the Pod becomes the audio card, so if you're using it make sure you have a means to listen like headphones, or 1/4 outs to monitoring. The audio codec that the POD runs is ASIO, so it's nice and fast. There's a Mic in as well, and you can apparently run both at the same time...somehow. I haven't gotten that deep into it.

The sounds are good IMO. The Supro amp is one of my faves, and the Bogner and Engl amps sound great too. You have to use some trickery to get a full-spread stereo sound out it, but use Pod HD Edit to find a suitably-spread amp sound and see how it'd made, or edit to your tastes.

There are a few presets that assume you'll have a control board, which sucks. If you're a wah/shift sounds on the fly type of player, just get an HD200 or 300 instead of the Desktop.

I bought mine on clearance for $199, but if I was having to pay more I would have either bought the Mustang Floor or one of the POD Floors. The i/o is nice and orderly and, though it seems like it'd be a pain, to get the full functionality of the Desktop you may have to get a short/long board anyway.

As far as the Pro, unless you have a rackmount setup anyway, don't bother.

I can't use the pedal on the pedal version... and ok I think I will get the desktop version, thanks for the info guys!
