POD vs Amp - Need help with decision

Re: POD vs Amp - Need help with decision

Just went and looked it up, you do have the output setting to mixer or recording, right?

Not trying to be a smarta$$, just double checking.

Yep. It actually has a Line setting and three different Amp settings. I tried them all into my effects return and one of the Amp settings worked best. I think it is the one with the highest gain. The Line setting is supposed to be the correct setting for running into a mixing board.

I'll definitey experiment with that at church.

The cleans I got last night were tolerable. I mean, I can tell the speaker cone excursion is lacking, but it's a usable tone. Tonight I need to find some fuzz and crunch tones at the same volume.

Good luck, we're rehearsing tonight and I got a text that we need 2 - 3 minutes of instrumental stuff at the start of the service, one song changed key, and another one was added. Good times....

This is the board I put together especially for the service tomorrow. Tonight at practice I was pleased to learn that the church folks bought a new mixing board and some new power amps. Everything sounded better.

I run a 6" shielded cable out of the tuner to a Live Wire DI and then a 12 ft. low impedence cable over to the snake. Also, they set me up with a small powered mixer with headphones that I connected to the 1/4" output on the direct box. I can hear!

Life is good and band sounds good. It was a three and a half hour rehearsal with free food.

Looks cool, I just run an RP1000 with no external pedals. It sounds like most of your problem has been solved just by the fact that you can hear now!

But it went well today, although sometimes we could use a long rehearsal!

We had a few serious stumbles even with the long rehearsal ......... too much Bmaj9/A# type stuff if you know what I mean.

The Tonelab ST has no provision for turning individual effects on and off live. That's why I added external delays and an OD. I did set up one patch identical to the main one I used except for the addition of a phaser.

Re: POD vs Amp - Need help with decision

That is the thing I like about the RP1K I only use 3 - 4 patches, but I can turn effects on and off in those patches. Pretty much why I bought that one.

I also changed the pickups in my guitar and it made a huge difference (the old JEM in my avatar). I had Evos in it, changed them to a Fred and a PAF Pro, and it made a big difference, much warmer and fuller now, easier to get decent tones with. Maybe the Evos just don't do modeling so well, or maybe I just don't get along with them as well...

One of the nice things about playing with keys is that you can just go to a Bmaj7 for stuff like that if you need to and let the keys carry the extensions, especially in the bass.
