PODS + DIGI FX Thru Good clean / Classic Single Ch amps????

Opinions?

I have run a Boss Se70 and POD XT Live straight thru my 73 Marshall before and I rather liked it. All the sounds on the fly, but in lower volume settings, it's kinda umm well... "digital" sounding lol. I have tried other units straight into amps. Varying results. You can't play with the Black Crowes this way, but a lot of music does work.

Your thoughts? Is this blasphemy?

wow, lots of questions about digital fx!
no, whatever gets you there. i don't use my digital effects into a tube amp because
1. it colors the sound too much
2. i think it tends to make amp models sound the same.
3. modelers tend to sound good through clean full range cabs (I use JBL EONs, which each have a 15 and horn)
4. I mix the modeled amp with guitar synth and piezo (acoustic) sound, which both sound terrible through standard guitar amps.

It's good for playing at home without causing the neighbors to call the cops.
For live, leave the toys at home, and crank up that Marshall 6100/OCD/and a few FX pedals.

I also agree with Mincer, but you two are on opposite ends of the spectrum, style-wise. Like Robert Fripp/Steve Howe/David Torn and T. Rex/Kravitz/Perry

I've used digital fx thru tube amps & find that if you knock your EQ on the amp (bass/mid/treble) down to 0, the modeller sounds better.

The patches are built already EQ'd...if you run it thru an amp that is EQ'd, you're basically doubling the EQ & making it sound like crap.

I ran a SansAmp PSA-1 thru a Hiwatt DR-504/Custom 50 & it was AMAZING !!!

if *YOU* think it sounds good than it is! who cares what we think :) no blasphemy at all. whatver gets you the tone that works run with it dude.

Good advice.

I'll add this (Juan Motime):

DO NOT RUN A POD INTO A GUITAR AMP...it does not yield desirable results. It is not the fault of the POD, OR the amp. The two are incompatible, sonically speaking.

If I think it sounds good?

HMMMM

musicians always think stuff sounds good, and god are they wrong. Worse, I think you have NO perspective when you are playing it yourself onstage. You hear nothing the audience hears.

I can't count the times I have told to crank up, and they barely do only to slowly turn down, not realizing that 20 feet into the audience they might ahs well have been playing air guitar, and vice versa.

A lot of Line 6 stuff sounds amazing to me til I hear a cranked Marshall and start to drool.

BTW Joe, thanks for the Bogner GAS, payback will be a b*tch.
