Pole piece screw material?

Let's say that purely for cosmetic reasons I want to change standard pole-piece screws to hex screws.

It's seems in the UK it's hard to get hex screws specifically advertised for pole pieces. Which got me wondering, what metal are pole piece screws made of, and does it matter?

It matters very much, average hardware store galvanized screws sound like dog pewp. 1018 and 1022 are the most commonly used steel alloys. If you can find someone that carries those alloys in the right threads you are good to go.
