Polishing Brass Saddles

I opened my bass case to see that my brass saddles were kinda solid oxidation and yick and the chrome was looking hazy and gross again, seeing as the last time I polished anything on it was about 3 years ago and it rarely gets to see sunlight.

So I get the idea that maybe I should attack it with a wire wheel and take the crud off of it, and within a few seconds I knew exactly what I was going to do. After I took all the rust off and made them shine, I decided to hit them with mag polish and a polishing bit followed by cleaner wax on the bit. I think I went a bit overboard because I've never seen factory brass saddles shine like that. Not really sure if they'll hold up and stay that shiny but they sure look nice right now.

Re: Polishing Brass Saddles

Nice job, but the Dremel was overkill. Some Scotchbrite and a little elbow grease would have cut the corrosion just fine. Also, don't forget metal polishing materials like Brasso or Flitz.

Nice job. I’ve used an old electric toothbrush with toothpaste to good effect..... just remember not to clean your teeth with that one! Well, not unless you’ve got a mouth full of shrapnel :D

Love the sound of brass for bass.

+1

All of longcat's and my basses have brass saddles, and all of them except one have a brass nut too. The one that doesn't is the Squier Bronco, and that's strung with flats and set up for a more mellow tone. I've been a believer since we got our hands on that first Spector Euro in early 2013.
