Poll:How Many of You Think You Hear Any Difference Between Different Caps?

you can defintely hear a difference between caps. sometimes it is more a question of feel, though. it also depends on the amount of signal passing thru the component. if you have a guitar level signal. you wont nitcie as much difference bewteen types of caps as if you were just after the phase inverter of an amp.

I noticed a huge difference when I changed both pots and caps, but as I changed two things at once I can't say for sure which affected things more. I can say that having good caps and (maybe more importantly) pots may very well change the way you approach the guitar in terms of tonal variety. If your amp cleans up well when you roll the volume down a bit you can get a huge palette of tones on a two pickup guitar. An easy, fruitful mod.

Thanks for the opinions on this all....I guess I should have stated using the same circuit and circuit voltages etc..but using different cap brands and materials but having the voltage rating and cap values be exactly the same...

I know in guitar circuits where we're bringing alot of tone to ground,that the differences aren't noticible normally..I also agree or at least feel,that in my amp mods and amp circuits,that certain caps do make a difference..This is always a very subjective topic for all of us but I wanted to see your answers...Thanks again..

Well if you are playing throught a standard guitar/cord/amp setup you probably won't hear the difference. But people with rack mount systems can hear the difference because their frequency range is usually much wider. I don't care for ceramic capacitors. I really like polyster film capacitors like you can get at radio shack. Polyster film caps have a nice even response across the entire sweep of the pot. I have found ceramic caps don't have as even a response.
