Poll: Most Transparent OD or Boost Pedal

Re: Poll: Most Transparent OD or Boost Pedal

Fulltone Fat Boost.
Insane amount of tranparent boost, true bypass, and bulletproof construction.

Re: Poll: Most Transparent OD or Boost Pedal

That would be my vote as well for a TRUE boost pedal... the Fulltone Fat Boost.

Re: Poll: Most Transparent OD or Boost Pedal

Bad Bob Boost. I thought it was a bit more quiet and had a bit truer bypass than a Fat Boost I tried (perhaps the FB was defective?). The Bad Bob is a clean design and simple to use. It adds a bit of presence that enhances the tone control range of a Tele, but is otherwise a full, clear boost. Very useful. I also like the Comp-cut mode of the FD2 as a clean boost with tone control.

Re: Poll: Most Transparent OD or Boost Pedal

Anybody ever use an OD pedal with 0 gain as a booster? This is what I'm doing and I'm wondering if I'm getting the same efect.

I've just started experimenting using my FD2 in this way ... for live use, it's very simple, but I think that I still prefer the Fat Boost overall ....

Re: Poll: Most Transparent OD or Boost Pedal

This is probably the point where I have go the music store and try out pedals, unless someone has clips! I used to have an MXR Micro Amp and thought it was truly a clean boost (i.e., a volume boost that doesn't drive the amp harder - same tone only louder). Even with 0 gain on my OD-3, it definitely adds overdrive to the volume boost (to be expected), but I like a lot it a lot b/c it is still quite transparent and sounds like I'm just turning up my plexi and it provides a perfect lead tone.

Re: Poll: Most Transparent OD or Boost Pedal

I have several pedals that are suitable as either boosters (SD Pup Booster) or OD Pedals (Modded TS9, BOSS SD1 or G2D Custom Overdrive). That I use depending on the effect that I want to achieve, and which guitar I'm using at the time :)

Don't say you haven't been warned! :D
Very cool, original stuff, awesome licks and your lead singer has a very distinctive voice - the sources of inspiration are pretty clear too! I heard a lot of bands' influences in there.

Thanx! :)
Those clips are a Fulltone Full-Drive 2/Fat Boost combo and a Rivera stack ...

Re: Poll: Most Transparent OD or Boost Pedal

This is what I'll be getting within the next few days:
http://www.proanalog.com/dualdrive.htm#Pro Analog Dual Drive

Supposedly, THE most transparent pedal around (well, according to some tone gurus at the Gear Page). It can be a booster, and it's also an OD. I can't wait to get mine in. Reviews are saying that it makes the Fullton FD2 sound like a toy in comparison. Much more transparent, rich, and full of harmonics.

I'm using my Vox Valvetone as a booster most of the time. It's a Tubescreamer clone without the big emphasis on the high mids, which I like. It also has more sparkle than the current TS-9's I've tried.

On a budget?? A TS-5 w/t the 808 mod Does just fine.:D
I actually had one, replaced it with a modded TS-9 and I still like the Boss better ($80 too!)

This I would like to hear! Although ...
If it's transparent, it shouldn't be adding any harmonics! D'oh!

Re: Poll: Most Transparent OD or Boost Pedal

That's some great copy on their web site, too!
I hope it delivers, at $300.

It's transparent, but somehow users are reporting their amps sounding "better" with the pedal. It takes the harmonic structure and gain stages and it brings it a little more in your face and adds a hi-fi ish vibe to it.

It is versatile enough for others to retire their RC boosters, Fulltone Fulldrives, and Klon Centaurs and that, in itself, says a lot. I don't want to stir up any hype, but that's the "word on the streets yo" and I'll hopefully be able to get some clips done (although it'll be with the 9v adaptor, I need to find a good place for a 12v, supposed to sound better that way).

Re: Poll: Most Transparent OD or Boost Pedal

I didn't see anywhere to vote on one, but I like the Boss DS-1 best. Mine's an old MIJ one. Great overdriven tones and I can turn my guitar's volume down to 1/2 and it cleans up to sparkling clean. Very transparent...especially when I turn the guitar's volume controls to 1/2. I generally use my Tele or Strat. I rarely need an overdrive when I play humbuckers. Lew
