Popular gear by country?

I have been thinking of this for awhile, are some gear popular in some countrys? Take sweden for an example:

I post on a Swedish music/gear forum and a large procent of all people that post and plays guitar say they influences are Zakk Wylde or Diamond Darrell. They want either a Gibson SG or Les Paul or a "Metal Looking guitar" like a ESP/LTD, Jackson or a BC Rich. EMG Humbuckers is almost a "must have". A Metal distortion pedal like the popular Boss Metal Zone is also a must have. Multieffect pedals are also very popular like the POD, V-amp or a Boss ME-50(?). For amps Marshall is very popular.

I don't think any of this gear sucks or anything but i'm just thinking why are just these things so popular? And everybod want's to play Metal guitar? If your looking at musician adds i think about 80% of all adds are from people looking for a Metal band, and about 75% of those are from guitarists.

I also talks alot to my friends at local music store and they say that the only pedals that sells are Metal distorion or a Multieffect pedals. The best selling guitars are Epiphone LPs and SGs.

Is this just a phenomenon in Sweden or is it like this in other country also?

I think you just described anybody who listens to metal.

Although it does seem like Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and all those countries up there have been turning out quite a few melodic death/black metal bands.

I see a lot of SG's and Jazz Basses around Milwaukee (but I suppose you could see a lot of those anywhere) :laugh2:

There are also a fair amount of Uberschalls floating around (about 4 to 6 I'd say, which is a pretty high number considering the price tag). Pretty much "the" amp for the hardcore crowd around here.

Re: Popular gear by country?

Fender MIM rules around here, as do the Parker Fly's and Ibanez RG's and S series. Ampwise, it's Peavey, Roland, and Fender.

Guitar Center stuff, IE: Epiphones, Faded Gibsons, cheaper Jacksons, stock pickups, Crate or B-52 halfstacks, or Marshall AVT's. I've seen one Ibanez ToneBlaster, and one Line6 FlexIII. Tuning to drop C is very popular as well.

Re: Popular gear by country?

I bet the wash-tub bass is still very popular in Guam.
