Possible fret level??

I'm not too keen on guitar repair, and not the best at troubleshooting so forgive my naivity, but I have a slight problem with my epi lp custom. On the 15th fret, whenever i do a bend on the B and high e strings, the note just kind of dies out in a very unattractive manner. ive checked the rest of the frets and its only on this fret that the problem occures. i can not bend the string hardly at all without this occuring. Does this mean that i have unlevel frets? or is there another problem i am unaware of? Any help would be appreciated as i know little about repairs and whatnot, thanks in advance!

Re: Possible fret level??

that's the most probably cause of the problem yes. I just got a guitar back from a tech who done a full setup with fret level etc & my word it's so much nicer now.

Re: Possible fret level??

wouldnt really apply mate, i'm in the UK. prices for you will be much cheaper in comparison.

Re: Possible fret level??

Fret out happens more often in guitars with a rounder radius...but Les Pauls have a kinda flat radius so I guess it's a fret.

Re: Possible fret level??

sounds like it could do with a spot dress... most likely will not cost a lot... maybe $50 at the most if it does need a spot dress... Or it could be a set up issue with the bridge being too low... i had to raise the action on my MIM strat the other day as i'm getting fret out in the same area... it really needs a fret dress but i've been putting it off... the 15th fret dies out if i bend it up on the B string... when i do fret dresses i flaten out the radius of the top of the frets in that area slightly to stop fret-out as much as i can... most of the fret dresses i do myself...

ps... in a few cases i've fixed this fret up issue with a hammer... a fret sometimes pops up a little and you have to reseat them... but you do have to know what you are doing for that!!!

Re: Possible fret level??

haha yeah im going to bring it to a tech soon and see what he says, im not knowledgable or experienced enough to even try to repair it myself, i am in no way in-denial about that. it has been set up once, but that was by the good ol' GC tech... so... lol. im gonna take it to a real tech real soon to hopefully get a final diagnosis. hopefully nothing major, thanks a lot.
