Possible new combo for my LP

Looking for a pickup combo for my LP that will tame the highs on an overly bright amp and fatten up my sound.

considering......

1) Suhr Doug Aldrich combo

2) Alnico 5 Pro (neck), custom custom (bridge)

yay or nay for one of those combos......or anyother suggestions

Re: Possible new combo for my LP

I've found the CC to be warm yet mushy. It's not a bad pickup, but it isn't ideal either.

Based on what I know about you, I'd suggest something like a Custom/PGn. You'll end up with a LP with ballsy and tight power in the bridge and a neck pickup that's about as good as it gets in a neck position. Put that in your LP, and I'm sure you'll feel like you spent your money wisely. And if you want to shift things around, you can always put an A5 or A8 magnet in the bridge....one of those choices will result in you being satisfied.

I'd go with a C8, which has a lot of mids, a tight low end, and just enough treble to cut thru. To me the Custom is too bright, even with 250K's.

GearJoneser: What about using a PGB in the neck slot? I've got one & am not thrilled with it as a bridge PU. Would it be too dark or too woolly for the neck? What about in an LP? My guitars are Gibson-designs, which do you think it would work best in?

Re: Possible new combo for my LP

i tried a LP with a PG combo and didnt like 'em. Im looking for a neck pickup with a big, fat, chuncky sound for singing sustained solos. I had an A2P in the neck of my LP for a while and ended up wanting more output, so I put an A5 magnet in it and it was better.......but still need more output......not much, just a little more. I currently have a dirty fingers in the bridge and LOVE IT! I swapped out an A2P for it. Im starting to find that it might be a hair too hot and want something maybe a little less. And then solving the bright amp problem.

Im really liking the Suhr Aldrich Combo from the specs.
Neck: 9k w/ an A5
Bridge: 17.5k w/ A5
And man Doug gets some of the best tones i've ever heard from a LP

Re: Possible new combo for my LP

Really like the CC in a bright Les Paul. I'm running one in a Les Paul studio with an ebony fingerboard.

One thing that makes a difference (I think Benjy mentioned this?) Replace the screw in pole pieces with shorter ones (like the hex ones found on the Demon). Tightens up the low end and will give you a little clearer highs... if needed.

Re: Possible new combo for my LP

what did you do with the a2pro bridge model you had? if you've still got it, throw that in the neck. like i suggested last time you had this same dilemma;)
