POT problem

I have installed a Jazz Humbucker in the Neck a few weeks agao and have an old single in the bridge that is about to be replaced with a Jerry Donahue. While I have it apart I want to try and find a solution to a problem.
Whenever I am playing with both pickups if I turn the Humbucker vol down it doesn't do anything till about 8 then it is like a switch and I just get full bridge pickup. When just running the neck it works just fine. Bridge pot is 250K Fender and Neck is 500K Gibson.

Also I noted when I was installing the Humbucker a while back that my tone pot have two of the legs connected. The middle and one side with the pickup attached to the otherside. Is this normal?

Thanks hope to have a solution before I start to install the JD this weekend.

This is weird. I was just looking at the Fender diagram. Turning down one volume control should kill both pups. I'll have to think about this.

Yes. This is normal. A tone control is wired as a 2-terminal rheostat.

Re: POT problem

Individually they are fine. Just the Humbucker neck has the wierd problem. Both pots full up everyhing OK. Start to roll off the Humbucker and you can't really tell anything until about 8 and then full bridge. These are new pots in both positions. And it hasn't been standard wiring for 30 years. Currently the SD Jazz neck has the three-way switching as per the installation instructions and the Dimarrizo (to be replaced this weekend with the SD Donahue) has a switch that reverses the phase versus the neck (gets me a sort of Strat inbetween sound). It's an awesome setup when it works right.
