Pots and caps

I have a MIJ 50's re-issue Fender Tele I tune to open G for slide and Stones tunes, typically using the neck pickup for Keith Richards sounds. I have SD Broadcasters in the guitar now but am ready try out a Little '59 at the bridge for ZZTop slides, Allman Brothers, etc. Single coils usually use 250 ohm pots and HB'ers usually use 500 ohm pots. Any suggestions? Also, would you recommend the standard .047mf cap? Thanks in advance.....Frogger

Frogger....Welcome to the forum. Hope you enjoy reading and contributing. WARNING This forum can be very addictive.

I would personally try a .033 or .022 cap. and compare.

As to the brands of caps...that is up to how much you want to spend. Some forumbros will spend $10.00 on Hovland, etc. caps and others don't feel that it makes that much difference. I use the cheaper brands personally.

I'm sure that others will comment.

Re: Pots and caps

I have no idea about the cap value but seriously filmcap such as Hovland is not my cup of tea, too bright and thin.

I suggest you try paper in oil cap for old vintage tone which give more warm, mellow, smooth and sweet tone.

Re: Pots and caps

You can leave all the electronics stock. Those little 'buckers (Little '59, JB Jr., Little Screamin' Demon) were made to work fine with the stock electronics in a Strat. In fact, from experience, I can tell you that the Little '59 is perfect with the stock values. I almost sold mine twice and glad that I didn't.

Re: Pots and caps

I've always been a fan of the Sprague orange drops and will probably continue........biggest concern was the values for the volume pot, tone pot and cap value.

Re: Pots and caps

Frogger, wait until you hear the sound of Sprague Vitamin Q.
It is worth a try, to my ear Vitamin Q wins by far margin.
