Pots question

I picked up some CTS 500k pots from Lew. When I went to put them in they wouldn't fit in the stock pots holes. They are close, but just need to be a little bigger. So whats the best way to make the holes a little bigger. I was thinking to just take a drill and drill them out a bit. Will this splinter the wood or anything?

Re: Pots question

It's going to be covered by the nuts and knobs anyway so It doesn't need to be very fine. 60 grit 80 grit. I would just use something like that.

Re: Pots question

There is a tool called a reamer that I use. It's tapered so it's smaller on one end and you stick it in the hole and then turn it and it shaves the hole bigger. It's a good tool for guitarists to own and luthiers usually own several. Your guitar must have had little metric size pots, huh? The sandpaper around a pencil trick seems like it would work fine for enlarging the hole in a pickguard. Good call!
