Power tube on the marshall avt150h

Alright i got sucked into this amp when they first came out because it was new. I've had it for a good couple of years now and really dislike it lol. I was thinking about changing the 1 power tube hoping it will help it out and get me by a little longer until i get a bogner.

it's got a ECC83 (12AX7) I was wondering what manufacturer i should get a replacement tube from or if I should even bother.

SOMEBODY SAVE ME FROM THIS AMP

edit- the only thing i have found on the net so far was somebody saying that if you put in a EI 12AX7 it cleans/brightens the amp up and gives it more of a marshall distortion. Not really a credible source. the clean channel almost sounds digital when i play now. It also is pretty much the only channel i use since i use my metal zone to give me a better distortion then the weak distortion the amp head has.

I wouldnt bother changing the one tube...and i dont know much about those heads but i dont think its a power amp tube, rather it would be a preamp tube...at least thats what that tube would be for if it was in an all valve head.

I wouldnt try and get better tone out of that thing, i dont think you'll have much luck, especially if you're looking at such monsters as bogners! Just sell it and put the money towards the bogner so you'll have it quicker!

yea i meant preamp tube i wasn't really paying attention.

Re: Power tube on the marshall avt150h

i wanna get a damn uberschall but i can't find a used one and really don't feel like spending $2700 right this second when there's otherstuff in the grand scheme of things i can see putting the money towards

Changing that tube won't have a drastic effect on tone, but for $7 it's worth stepping it up a notch. My Vox Valvetronix head has that "mini power section" 12AX7 mated to it's SS power section, so I yanked the feeble Sovtek 12AX7A and replaced it with one of my favorite Sovtek's....the 12AX7LPS. It's not a night and day difference, but I can tell that the overall sound of the amp tightened up a bit and sounds a tad richer.
So, it is worth it.

However, you may want to just list it for sale, and step up to a DSL 50, which actually is a good sounding Marshall, if you don't wanna go all the way to automobile prices with a Bogner. So much of an amp's sound is the speaker cab, so make sure to always use a Marshall w/Vintage 30's or better.
