Practice and jam amp-Fender Mustang

I have been surprised by the tones coming out of the Fender Mustang modeler amps... i'm normally not a modeler guy but i can't agnore how great i find the tones in these cheap things... and the price is killer....

but there is 3 different set ups i'm toying with and not sure which way to go...

1-Mustang III-100watt 1x12 combo... easy to carry. less space in my bedroom, but makes me wonder if it will be heard over a band if i wanted to try and use it in that setting... and wonder if the speaker can handle the bass notes at higher volumes...

2-Mustang VI-150watt 2x12 version... larger louder, heavier to carry but may hang in a band setting better...

3-Mustang Floorboard... i could buy a Mustang Floorboard and a powered monitor... that way i could change floorboards when newer models come out, and the power output and handleing of a powered monitor/speaker could be much greater then the Mustang Combos... Plus a powered Monitor could be used for other instruments and vocals... but this route is more expensive...

Re: Practice and jam amp-Fender Mustang

as far as powered monitors i have my eye on a Yamaha series that has 3 different sizes all with a 1100 watt power amp inside it... that could make any floorboard fx unit shake a house...

Re: Practice and jam amp-Fender Mustang

Instead of my halfstack I use my pod xt live either with headphones at night or through my peavey express. That covers all the territory I need. As much crap as those moddler things get its come in pretty handy over the years.

I have a Mustang I and I am surprised by how loud it gets.

I have no doubt a Mustang III would be fine in a band setting.

i may just have to try one this weekend at loud levels... but right now i may get the floor board and maybe the combo III too LOL... more and more i think about the uses i could have for powered monitors it is scary i don't own one, or 4... lol but for easier jamming use a combo could fit the bill... and the floor board and the Combo together is like only $600...

PS- i'm spending some time in Vancouver again later this year... L&M on Terminal will get a few visits from me for sure!

Re: Practice and jam amp-Fender Mustang

When I see Mustangs at the store, I think to myself, hmm, those are just simple versions of my GDEC3-30, which is the original user of the Fuse software and has much more advanced controls and an actual screen interface, plus it has more options than the Mustang for making presets.

Does the Mustang series appeal to the folks because they look more like a regular amp than the GDEC? Is it that wattage?

Re: Practice and jam amp-Fender Mustang

WoodGrain, it's really a different series of amps from our gdec 30s. They're not 'jam-along' tools; they're solid-state amps meant *only* to amplify a guitar.

With Fuse, you have just as many options with either amp. But the Mustangs seem to be performance tools, not performance partners, if that makes sense. Plus, four of the Mustang amps are more powerful than the most powerful gdec -- which is just 30 watts .

Re: Practice and jam amp-Fender Mustang

The Mustangs and GDEC3-30 (not to be confused with the older GDEC-30) both use the same Cyber-II DSP engine, but the GDEC3 can do more with it, like pitch-shifting, expanded compression parameters, and tone stack placement. Both amps then send send their output signal to a solid state amplification unit.

I'd consider the GDEC3 to much more than a jam-toy, the speakers/wattage in the GDEC3 may not be as powerful as some Mustang models, but I can use the stereo 1/4" output jacks to another amp or PA to take care of that. It also has a built-in looper, and yes, it does store jam tracks and as many mp3's as your SD card allows, which can also hold hundred's more presets.

Using local intelligent life as an analogy, I kind of see the Mustang as a dolphin, and the GDEC3 as a human. The dolpin is a better straight-ahead power swimmer than the human, but the human can do so much more.

Aside from the looper, the Mustang can do all those things via the Fuse software.

The main difference is that the GDEC puts more control on the front panel, whereas the Mustang has a very basic front panel.

Re: Practice and jam amp-Fender Mustang

The Fuse software reconfigures itself based on which amp is plugged in.

Re: Practice and jam amp-Fender Mustang

i just like the sound of them... i bought the 2x12 IV model today... i'll have to try it out at band practice this weekend

With Fuse, the Mustangs do all of this (except the looper).

Your dolphin-human analogy was neat, but if I were in a band, I know which amp I'd use. And if I wanted to practice rhythm in my basement, likewise.

Dude, I give up. :banghead:
For everyone else who is interested, go to Fender's site and read the manual sto see what's different.

Re: Practice and jam amp-Fender Mustang

i'm glad i bought the 150watt 2x12.... it kept up with the volume at band practice... but any louder and i could see the speakers craping out on the serious low end this amp offers
