Prails Wireing Questions.

I want to wire up a Prails in the bridge and a normal humbucker in the neck (4 wire) with one vol and one tone pot. Lately I've been using a 5 position Super switch with dual hunbuckers as follows:

Position 1 - Bridge Humbucker
Position 2 - Bridge single coil tap
Position 3 - Bridge & neck (full humbuckers)
Position 4 - Neck single coil tap
Position 5 - Neck Humbucker

I will add a DPDT switch to put the neck humbucker out of phase. So far no issues.

I want Position 1 to be the Prails humbucker.

Position 2 should be P90 OR single coil of the Prails using a second DPDT toggle switch.

Question: How do I wire it so that no matter which position the DPDT (P90 or single coil) is in, Position 1 of the Super switch is always a Prails humbucker?

Thanks!

Re: Prails Wireing Questions.

The P-Rails is wired the same as any Duncan humbucker, so it is just a matter of following the wiring that you've already got with two humbuckers.

Here's a typical bucker color code...

Here's a P-Rails...

The north coil in each pup (P-90 in the P-Rails) is black and white wires. The south coil is red and green wires. When the red and white wires of the P-Rails are connected and isolated, you get full humbucker mode (P-90 + Rail). When those red and white wires are switched/connected to ground, you get split to P-90.

So just follow the wiring that you've been using with two humbuckers but substitute the P-Rails for one of them (the bridge pup) and you should get exactly what you want.

Re: Prails Wireing Questions.

Thanks! But it doesn't answer the questions as it relates to the super switch. Position 2 needs to be single coil but if the ON OFF ON toggle swich is set to off the Prails would be in humbucking mode not single coil.

Re: Prails Wireing Questions.

I've decided to use a standard 3-way and use a toggle switch for the neck coil tap and an ON-OFF-ON toggle switch for the Prails. I just can't get the super switch to work right with the Prails. I will use a third switch to put them out of phase. Kinda like Carvin did in the 80's.
