i was recently invited by my dealer to audition the Marty Friedman Model (Ibanez), was skeptical at first, totally repelled by those stars but it's all about tone... i'm really impressed with the default Duncans in this guitar.

wondering if the good Duncan people here can share what those humbuckers are modelled after- or are they the same ones fitted in the Prestige 4020/ 2020?

Re: Praise: Duncans in Marty Friedman model...

Judging by the poles they look like Screamin demons. I like the Friedman Kellys alot better than that new one, when they supposed to come out??

Re: Praise: Duncans in Marty Friedman model...

i'm not a fan of signature series in particular, i'm willing to 'forgive' this guitar's endorser affiliations because it's a good player per se. the pickups in there are the right ones for the guitar- impressive.

the Ibanez MFM was released in Summer but exclusive to the Japanese market & selected dealers (mainly Asian/ Europe). american release date has yet to be announced.

Re: Praise: Duncans in Marty Friedman model...

Honestly, I don't know. Guitar manufacturers don't always tell us which of our pickups are going into which of their models. The best thing would be to remove the pickup and look at the sticker on the underside.

I can tell you that we're not making a special pickup for Ibanez for this guitar. It's a regular production pickup. I'm just not sure which one.

But Marty was a JB-man for years. I know that.

Looks fantastic. Probably sounds killer too.

Re: Praise: Duncans in Marty Friedman model...

thanks for the insight! whatever they are, they are the right pickups for the guitar.

Re: Praise: Duncans in Marty Friedman model...

They had the Seymour Duncan logo or the Seymour Duncan/IBZ logo?

Re: Praise: Duncans in Marty Friedman model...

I read on his site that he used a JBJ forever (that being, wound by MJ as you all know) so maybe its some mild varient or different coloured JB?

Re: Praise: Duncans in Marty Friedman model...

Oooooh, OK. Well, if they had the Seymour Duncan / IBZ logo, just go to the FAQ page and you can read all about them.

Re: Praise: Duncans in Marty Friedman model...

if that's the case, it'd be identical to the ones in the SZ4020- are we safe to assume that?

wow, thats a better looking guitar.

I'm a Marty fanatic, but I have always like the USA KE2 with the w/ 2 buckers and a floyd. The KE1 was too simple, not frilly enough for me.

Re: Praise: Duncans in Marty Friedman model...

Marty's current choice of guitar reflects his current needs. according to him, the Ibanez has added versatility for the materials he's doing now. you can hear the Ibanez MFM in action in his latest release, Loudspeaker.

Re: Praise: Duncans in Marty Friedman model...

Marty does not use that guitar on all tracks on the album, though... I've even seen some pics of Friedman on the studio recording with a Danelectro. :eek13:

Re: Praise: Duncans in Marty Friedman model...

of course- there were other guitars used. his Ibanez Artist model (prior to the MFM release) is one of them, Les Pauls even...

Re: Praise: Duncans in Marty Friedman model...

those IBZ pickups sound good according to the specs in the FAQ. I'm not really big on the look of this guitar either, but I'm gonna go find an Ibanez and they those pups.

Rock on ~ Kac
